If they can get Satellite upgraded to HD then I’d expect talk to begin about shutting down the DVB-T network, can only assume the telcos will be eyeing it up for 4/5G

TVNZ at least is looking to exit both terrestrial and satellite delivery in the not too distant future . . .

TVNZ is moving towards a future where it will be a digital-first media organisation and will exclusively deliver content and services through streaming. TVNZ plans to phase out its linear broadcast TV distribution over time, and expects to be fully digital by 2030

I suppose they mean fully OTT/streaming? I'm pretty sure they went from analogue to digital broadcasting over a decade ago but I guess digital means the former nowadays...

Reminds me of when companies talk about "digital downloads". As opposed to analogue downloads?

If you look at how things are going for Warner Brothers Discovery, it's hard to imagine that they will still be linear broadcasting in a couple of years' time.

I think TVNZ are talking about transition to an OTT native IP streaming platform supporting live and on-demand that runs over DVB-T2/S2.

If WBD stopped terrestrial they would be knifing themselves in the back.

I can't see how it could possibly be viable for them to continue to pay huge fees to Kordia while their audience share and advertising revenue is in terminal decline. They could end up exiting the NZ market entirely, but the more likely scenario is that they position ThreeNow as a catalogue of cheap British and Australian content. It won't attract much of an audience, but the financials will still look better than what they're doing now.

Guess you're right, still why I have Sky and not got gone to Sky Sport Now.... I could not handle sport with a 3-4 minute delay.

Why not?  The viewer does not notice it unless you mix video from Sky with audio from a different live source.  If you watch exclusively on SSN there is no problem.

If you're looking at live scoring / timing etc from another source it's pretty terrible.

Kordia is an SOE….therefore a money wheel in action. I.e.  TVNZ is an SOE who pays Kordia who is also an SOE and both return dividends to the Crown.

I was referring to WBD, not TVNZ.

TVNZ is similarly a dying business, but their transition away from linear broadcasting will be complicated by their aging audience base.

Steaming is garbage quality.. Def nowhere near UHF

I would agree. Was watching TV3 streaming a few weeks ago and it appeared to be standard definition and was just a satellite relay complete with pixellation and drop-outs - absolute rubbish.

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.
