gdc - did you get the new update, is it more recent than the one on the website and did it fix any of the problems?

I'm having some problems with the HDD dropping out sometimes and audio stuttering when playing back and recording at the same time so keen to try an update.

Yeah, sorry Ive been busy, The update didint do anything I think its the same as the website one, The Rep rang and said that he had tested thier units and found the same problems, and they have esculated it with urgency to the manufacturers, will have to wait and see, He also said that he had tested it at two houses, one with a strong signal and one with a weaker one and the problem eas much more prevalent at the weaker one. So it appears arials etc are a real factor i\with freeview. Will keep posted when I hear more.

Okay,  I have received the new firmware for the box and loaded it up, so far all is working well, PVR recordings have good sound now and the voice is in sync with the picture. The same applies to watching TV. havent noticed any pixelation  at all. The company rep is excellent to deal with, very helpfull even after hours when he is home. Hows that for service    They say the software will only be available for download once they are sure it is running to correctly specification after feedback from users like me.

Overall my experience with this box is top notch, I would say they will make an impact on the market,
I will be prepared to now replace my other ET junk box with another of these.

My only dislike of it is the only USB plug is on the front, which makesit a bit untidy looking with the HDD
plugged in, but small picking really.

So all is good I will go and buy one today

Two questions

1. Where do you download the updated firmware? and how do you get it onto the machine using flash stick?

2. What sort of flash drives have you tried that work?

Don't mean to hijack but I am very keen on one of these normal TV on my bravia looks very poor.

The software will be down  loadable from www.jcmatthew.co.nz when they release it.

I have only used Sandisk USB drives, they work fine.

Software update done via the menu system, navigate to USB look for STB files, select file and press red button to load it. Easy as.

The remote has full recording playback buttons on it as per a VCR, easy to use.

The box can also do timeshift recording, so you can watch somthing while it is recording but delayed, as well as record one channel while you watch another.

Thanks for the update gdc.

Sounds great - even with the current issues it's still a pretty reasonable PVR. Will give the rep a call to see if I can be a "beta" user as well.

To record it will be best to wait for the new firmware or you will be disappointed.
When its installed, to record imediately just push the record button on the remote, to schedule, press the PVR button on the remote and set up the schedule there,The time and date setting are a bit funny, just make sure your not setting up a time that is in the past or it wont let you move on to the next step, all the other PVR functions are there also, by the way Time shift record is on by default. I have been told a HDD with 7200 speed is best.

Hi gdc thanks for the info and updates
I will be very keen to load the new firmware one it's out(hopefully soon)
I will probably try and run a flash disk I have heaps lying around and the will look tidier than a cable running around I am so overloaded I don't need a HDD that requires a power output either.

Looks like new firmware is on the site - http://www.jcmatthew.co.nz/support/download.html

Also they have a PVR - don't think this was listed yesterday
http://www.jcmatthew.co.nz/products/dhe/dvr320t.html

Anyone know anything about this?

I got the frimware form the tech two days ago it seems to be the one on the site above, but when I go to update the (reload) it says "HEAD ERROR"

Any ideas whats wrong I have emailed the tech and am waiting to hear back
Pushing PVR or record on my remote doesn't seem to do anything before or after I tried the firmware update.

I just followed the instructions at http://www.jcmatthew.co.nz/products/dhe/dvbtb01.html and it worked fine. Try downloading it instead.
And they've pulled the DVR-320T info off their site as well..... presumably wasn't meant to be listed yet.

If you get the Head error when loading the new software, you have to run the other file first "JCM Reload" it clears the old sofware out and then allows you to load up the new software. Exactly as per the instructions on the web site dont try to cut out the first step.

Thanks got it working

I had the Head error on the JCM reload which I did first but it will give you that error if you don't have anything loaded to begin with, well atleast thats what there helpdesk told me so if you get that message when running the reload I was told to just move on to the firmware update.

I must say the pvr seems to work quite well

Thanks for all the help

Just loaded the latest Firmware, June 09, and all seems to work OK except that I noticed that the time showing in the scheduler was 2006.  Thought that strange so I checked the clock settings and found that it sits in Auto and can not be changed.  Any one else have this problem?  It may be that it will eventually correct itself from the time signal but the time was settable in the previous iteration of the Firmware.

Reloading the Firmware fixed the "Time" problem and recording to Hard Drive works OK but not to Memory Stick.  Maybe a special type of memory stick, that looks more like a hard drive, is required?

Anyone with experience of this?
