I will try set it to record the simpsons or The Crowd Goes Wild and see what it'll do.
btw, there is also a "timer recording" mode so it allows you to set the timer using the old fashion way.
I went to quite a few shops (Harvey Norman, Noel Lemmings, DSE,.....etc) none of them have it or even know what i'm talking about. Finally went to Bond and Bond and bought it there (they only have 2, one on display)
i paid $769 boot up time.. seems slightly better than the Zinwell. But I will try time it tonight and report back!
magic tv has three options 1. chapter advance which is set to 10mins and is not adjustable. or there is
2. fast forward up to 32x max
3. use the edit function to cut out ad breaks from recorded content.
i havnt found a way of transfering content onto an external hard drive although the magic tv recognises the drive and will format it and will tell you it is a useable external storage device
i can't verify whether magictv can pass thru DD5.1 one or not. (i don't have any AV amp with HDMI input :( ) But there are two options in the setup menu 1. HDMI Audio : On/off/auto 2. Bitstream options
But i'm not sure if the bitstream is refering to HDMI Audio or not.
Also tested the standby -> boot up time: takes about 18 sec from pressing the on button to able to see live TV picture.
Also tried setting the thing to record The simpsons and The Crowd Goes Wild. But i have some weird result. It locates some of the other episodes on different days successfully but it also missed a few episodes and some are just on the next day at same time so i'm not sure what's happening.
Recorded Picture quality seems quite good. But i'll need to record some more HD programs to tell how good they are actually.
Hi yellow15, thanks for using our product! I see that you connected Magic TV on the internet. Please try go to the Firmware update menu. It should find a new firmware on the network. The new firmware has some minor bug fix on series recording, as well as enable Dolby Digital bitstream pass-through through optical/coaxial audio and HDMI audio. Enjoy!
You can also update the Magic TV firmware by USB thumbdrive. Go to Magic TV website http://www.magictv.com/nz/support.html and download the firmware file. Unzip the firmware on a USB thumbdrive, then connect to Magic TV USB port. Go to the Firmware update page and it should see the firmware on USB.
Hi Richard. Thanks for sharing your experience. I too have been looking for 1 and most retailers don't know anything about it. Noel Leeming said it was a special order item. Eventually Bond and Bond were the only ones who readily knew about it.
@magictv, quick question. I haven't actually used one yet so I can only base my understanding of the EPG implementation on what has been described on your website and in this thread, but why is the EPG not like in HK where it matches the interface of the device (rather than adopting the standard Freeview style). Is there a way to switch between the two?
I also wonder if you might be able to clarify the following:
- Can users remove content from the device for playback on iPods/iPhones etc? - Is it (or will it in the future) be possible to browse network content such as photos in iPhoto and music in iTunes. - Along similar lines, is there any support for streaming media such as online radio and video. - Finally, I assume, as with most PVRs there is no picture in picture function?
hi maccrazy, the Freeview EPG, well, is a Freeview thing! In order to have Freeview approval, the EPG must be the Freeview way. A regular EPG is not allowed by Freeview rule.
Recorded content is not allowed for export. The limitation may change if Freeview will change it's copy protection rule.
Initially, only online firmware update and live news/weather info is available on network connection. We may try to provide more network feature by firmware update, but there is no definite time frame yet.
i record a TV show few nights ago. the EPG has the wrong (old) program name and was not updated. So end up the program i record has the wrong name. So it would be great if a rename function is added.
