Maybe we should start a campaign to get Mediaworks to make C4 into HD?? Nah it won't happen as MW is now owned by a pack of bean counters..

Easier to stick shows in HD on TV3 no matter what time they are. I would watch HD shows on TV3 at 11pm if I wanted to watch them or record them if I wanted my beauty sleep! If you see the programming they have at 11pm anyway, this has got to be better.

browned: But TV3 does have a lot more HD content on right now, I just pulled 23 shows on this week in HD. Including:
Greys Anatomy ...

Don't try watching Greys Anatomy on TV3 - it's actually on TV2.

lchiu7: Was the Sky feed in HD or were they constrained by the TVNZ source?

The Sky feed was definately in HD and the TVNZ feed was SD enhanced (upscaled). I had friends around for dinner and had TVNZ running in the family room (as I cooked) and the Sky covereage in the lounge.

There was a very marked difference - not only in picture quality, but also in the presentation and capture of the mood and fun. Going off topic slightly, Sky managed to capture it well focusing as much on the crowd as well as the games. TVNZ unfortunately spent little time capturing the mood and showed themselves very much as an outdated and almost boring broadcaster. Maybe another reason why they are missing (or perhaps do not even recognise) the HD opportunities?

I don't particularly like Sky, but in this instance when I was able to compare both side by side - Sky left TVNZ for dead. Well done Sky.

Cheers DB

Don't worry I won't be letting anyone in my house watch, record, or download Greys Anatomy even if it is in HD.

Well looks like Big Bang Theory and Flash Forward, both on TV2 are also not it in HD. Guess it must be economics or something.

Makes me tempted to find alternative ways of getting this content :-) As a slight OT aside, I watched an ep of BBT here after having watched most of the show on US sourced content before. I have mentioned this before but the PAL speed is quite evident with Sheldon's voice, which already is pitched up quite high, sounds noticeably higher (to me) when sped up to 25fps. I guess most people wouldn't notice but I guess this is the disadvantage of having a decent ear (pitch wise that is!).

I wonder how much more do studios charge for HD versus SD versions of their content?

TVNZ are starting to do a bit better with HD broadcasts at the moment - we've recently had seasons of Flash Forward, Greys Anatomy and Lost starting, all in HD.

That's great. I think it's a pity about the sound though. Just uppping the bitrate slightly might work? I recently upgraded my speakers and I am now thinking that the AAC-LE audio sounds quite bad in the high frequencies. Just my $0.02, and YMMV.
