I guess this isn't much help but I do remember when I flashed my LA40B650 with firmware that came from the .nz site I noticed that the country was set to Australia and I couldn't change it. I played around for a few minutes and then gave up since I don't actually use the in-built tuner. When My Dad came and stayed he wanted to see what the channel change speeds were like compared with his TV so I plugged the aerial back into the TV and went in to the menu and this time I was able to change the to NZ and scan in the channels. I don't know what happened in between this time and the first time I tried it. You might try totally disconnecting the TV from power for a few mins and trying again???

Oh btw the file on the .com.au is linked to the exact same file as on the .nz site

So no way Radiola can say you loaded the wrong firmware.

Worst comes to the worst check out the SammyGo B650 hacking page there is a hacked firmware and probably enough info in the wiki to help you get it unbricked if you're that way inclined.

Id' be inclined to possibly lodge a claim with the disputes tribunal if you think it's unfair. You really only stand to lose $30 and may end up with a referee who likes you side of the story.

If I were you I would be jumping up and down by now. What is reason are they giving you for not sorting it out under warrnty? You've done absolutly nothing wrong. The firmware released and reccommend by Samsung hosed your TV. Mate, it's time to start turning up the volume! Who was the retailer? They are the ones who need to sort this out for you. Once you start using terms like disputes tribunal and Consumer Guarantees Act they should come around!

Yea we had a similar problem actually. Our Samsung TV was actually one year out of the warranty - Samsing said sorry we can't help you and you will need to pay (a rediculous) $5,000 for a new part.

We said that under the Consumer Guarantees Act we shouldn't have to pay etc... They talked to someone higher up, then fixed it for free.

The reason was basically that we did this to ourselves by doing a firmware update.

Might consider taking action. Have paid to get it fixed in the mean time though.

ArcticSilver: The reason was basically that we did this to ourselves by doing a firmware update.

However the updated firmware was made available by Samsung together with instructions for applying the update. Like most major companies Samsung made updated firmware available in this way because it reduces their after-sales support costs - however they do have to accept responsibility if an update goes wrong.

Don't take this sitting back. Samsung are at fault here for posting an update that has rendered your TV set u/s. It is their responsibility - not yours.

What version firmware are you using? The latest for NZ is 2009/09/21_002001, but there are other versions out there in europe which is a lot more recent. It seems the latest european firmware the only difference it might have made was that they closed off a few 'backdoors' which allowed the TV to be hacked easily, check out samygo mods (as someone else has mentioned).

Seems there are quite a few improvements that could be made easily with firmware, only prob is Samsung will most likely only do them in new TV's so you have to buy a new set.

With this firmware update they have also disabled the ability to roll back to the previous firmware version.

Its already been repaired unfortunitly.

It is our main tv so we wanted it back asap.

Hi Guys and all others who find this thread with the same problem like I did. I found another thread on Cnet that tells you how to adjust your TV's firmware if you flash it with the EU/NZ one. Go to http://forums.cnet.com/5208-13973_102-0.html?threadID=334436&tag=forum-w;forums06 and read it all to figure out how they did it, but the important stuff is post 30 onwards.

Quick questions...
1: Is Radiola still the Samsung importer in NZ? I thought someone said they changed a while ago?

2: How old is the TV? What is the model number (down to the last digit)?

As an aside, if I was an importer, I'd simply make firmware updates unavailable in order to stop incidents like this happening. Too many people rush things and ruin their devices... a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing :-(

Radiola ceased trading in April this year. Samsung does all their own support now. I do not know who imports now.

But yes I am one of those with just enough knowledge to be dangerous :p

I sorted out my LA40A680M1MXRD with the fix on the Cnet website using the EU/NZ firmware Version 1013 upgrade from the Samsung.com/nz website. I just thought I would link it for future bumbling stumblers :)
