Because of the various lagg issues we were having with our tv and as per the suggestion by the samsung website I flashed our TV's firmware.

The only problem is, now it will not pick up any DTV channels in a scan. We have normal analog tv but no freeview (our tv has a inbuilt freeview tuner).

I tried reflashing the firmware but it will not let me with a older firmware (no way to force it) or even that of the same version.

Any idea's?

Have you set your country to New Zealand after the firmware update?

select "alternative firmware" within the tv menu and you should be able to return to the previous firmware

Alternative firmware is not there unfortunately.

I think ive figured out what happened. In haste i didn't realise i had been redirected to the AU site (vs the NZ) so i might of flashed it with the AU firmware. I have tried to re-flash but it will not accept firmware with the same verison number.

There is no regional setting =(

If you have flashed it with AU firmware it's no doubt using their odd 7Mhz stepping and scanning the VHF band where most of their DVB-T is.

I've flashed my la32b650 successfully with a download from the .au site. If I remember rightly the version number was newer than the one on the .nz site.

There were two different versions available - you need to make sure you are downloading the right one, by checking the label on the back / side of the telly.

I did need to rescan the channels again when I'd finished but all came up with no issues.

If it's any use I haven't noticed any significant difference between the old firmware and the new, although in your case if it fixes the issue you have it would be a big difference ;-)

Cheers

This is the thing that annoys me... Theres the likelyhood the firmware may not even have a fix for your issue.. On top of that there is simply no way of knowing apart from installing a firmware update as Samsung are very BAD at not listing what has changed in the firmware.

Ideally I would not recommend changing the firmware at all unless you know what it's 'fixing' and what additions are included. I'd like to check if my Samsung Series 7 has new software, but certainly not keen to install it without a changelog.

Anyway, that aside... I'd recommend you contact Radiola (distributors for Samsung) and ask them for assistance to roll back to the previous version of firmware. I've always found them very helpful.

Sounds like they have no way to roll back/re-flash the firmware and we will have to pay to replace that part of the TV.

Lovely isn't it.

A lag issue can easily be proven and the importer/manufacturer has a responsibility to fix this if it is not adequate or acceptable for normal consumer use.

If you had these problems with the TV, why did you not send it back to Radiola and get them to fix the problem in the first place? If it was simply a firmware issue and they accepted the initial responsibility to fix the problem, surely the problem would be theirs and not yours? If it is more than a firmware issue, it is still their responsibility.

Do not allow the importer to pass on the cost to yourself. It is afterall their responsibility, unless of course there is a caveat on their website stating otherwise. Good luck and don't take this lying down.

Cheers DB

I don't recall any mention on the Samsung site warning that if you brick your TV that you'll have to pay to get it fixed. I would certainly be seeking advice elsewhere if I were you.

There is no warning.

There isn't any suggestion that you are on a AU vs NZ site either (unless you look in detail in the URL as it is still .com).

To top it all off they recommend you upgrade your firmware to fix this issue in their FAQ.

Can you explain what you mean by 'lag problem'?

Audio lag?

Yes audio lag, mainly on TV3 (full HD), its quite possibly the processor not keeping up.

Um.. you will find it's TV3... I've heard of other people having the same issue.. it's not always there I don't think.. It's either with the Dolby sound, or AAC sound, one of the two...

edit: actually just found one of the threads about it: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=84&topicid=40588

Wow, this kind of sucks.

This is not much of a suggestion but you could always wait until the next firmware upgrade comes out and then make sure you flash it with the correct (NZ) version, and in the meantime see if you can pick up a cheap freeview box (eg off trademe) and use that as your digital tuner.

But still, it's hard to believe there is no way to reflash the firmware with an older version :-(
