Well, the dishtv S7050pvr hdmi satellite reciever I bought off trademe was $165.00

wish I had of seen it before I got a TiVo for $900 as it does everything the same once you plug a USB external hard drive into it and upscales to 1080i hdmi,I can't really see much difference in picture quality between the TiVo and the dishtv box on my 42 inch plasma tv and I can get all the sbs channels and optus aurora from oz if I get a card from somewhere.0

You don't need DVB-S2 for SBS as they transmit in MPEG-2 HD over DVB-S. I'm using an old SkyStar2 card.

make sure the lnb setting is right for your sky dish.
It can either be one of the two below:

11300 (11.3) or 10750 (10.75)

Mine is set to 11300 for the dual throat LNB I have on the sky dish.

and turn 22K on the config for optus C1 and that will get you Optus D1, D2 and C1 if you have a Dual throat LNB on your sky dish.

Hi,

Just tried tuning into SBS, did not get it to work.

Using a topview tf4000 STB.

Tried the frequency 12646 V 12600 SR. Nothing shows and get no signals
Can get freeview fine.

Using LNB freq 11300 as thats what lets freeview through.

Any ideas?

SBS1 on Satellite D1 on mine is at:
Transponder: 12652/V/12600
PID: V161 A81 P161

The SBS signal is much weaker than the local freeview streams. You have to have the dish aligned properly and the skew on the lnb correct. both should be fine if it's a proper ex sky install that hasn't been touched. You also need a receiver that can work with the lower strenth signal.

Good point about the DVB-S Mpeg2 HD. This basically means there are not many, if any, DVB-S2 signals around NZ so it's not worth the extra cash basically.

SBS One appears as two channels, one SBS One, and the other SBS One HD. A standard receiver stb will not be able to show the HD variant.

The HD is good for the soccer, but I watched the HD terrestrial broadcast last night on TV1 and it was nothing short of stunning. You could notice the transition back to SD when they left the pitch or when TV1 started showing their replay compilations as I don't believe TVNZ can edit in HD yet, or at least one part of their local chain can not work with HD from what I can gather. TV1 dropped the HD after the ghost logo whenever they showed footage not from the HD feed.

Hmm wondering if the cable is not making a connection inside the adaptor, hence not getting any signal

(sorry for double post - what happened to the edit button?)

Anyone have any ideas on how to make this work?
My guess is the cable coming out from the F-connector from the cable just isn't getting far enough into the connector on the tuner card to provide me any signal.

Been to DSE, they don't seem to have anything "they stick out a standard amount".

Can you get any of the following Freeview transponders and confirm signal strength

12456 H 22500
12483 H 22500

Then try 12671 H 22500 which is a Sky transponder.

Next try for SBS on 12648 H 12600 or 12646 H 12600

For more details see http://www.lyngsat.com/optusd1.html and http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/forum/index.php/topic,1011.0.html

I've got a Toroidal T90 dish and SBS is far stronger than the freeview and Sky signals.
