Integrated approved box will never get SBS, and if you see a TV with a nice clear artifact free picture, and one with freeview sat on it, you know you are getting stiffed for picture, at the moment the best option is to wait till the service gets extended.

I find it hard to believe that any more than a handful doesnt care about HD.

Hmmm...not really about caring about HD. I live in Wellington (North) and just happen to live in a spot where there is no HD signal. So I have to stick with DVB-S unless they build more repeaters.

So sadly my HD TV with built in Freeview HD tuner is hooked up to crappy DVB-S and Sky digital (and no I dont plan on getting MySky).

richms: Integrated approved box will never get SBS

Hi all,

A few things if I may:
This DishTV box (pretty sure it was this one) does allow for tuning of SBS and is also an official box with MHEG5 EPG plus their own original (somewhat crappy) EIT based EPG if you really want it, (ie for SBS etc)

http://www.freeviewnz.tv/products/detail/dish_tv_s7070

Also, those satlink 19" DVB-S integrated TV's retail for $590 ish.

old3eyes: Try this. http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/hyundai-combo-satterrestrial-recorder-p-495.html

I have actually owned that unit and personally would not recommend it to anyone.

The Hyundai is not approved, meaning doesn't have the MHEG-5 EPG that you can series link from etc.  There is a lot of support for Terrestrial approved units, but still nothing for the satellite service.
This was what I was getting at.

If it was approved then it would not be duel and you would not be able to receive SBS channels.. Some of the non approve boxes work better than the crippled approved boxes..

When ASoft designed the software for the DTVS satellite box, we extended the ability of Freeview accredited receivers to tune channels in addition to Freeview. We found a way to meet the Freeview specifications and also allow tuning of other channels without breaching the certification or the DVB-SI structure. We can do the same for satellite iDTV, however, the issues with satellite iDTV are:

1) Anyone wanting to purchase a TV would like to use it for other purposes such as watch full HD Blu-ray content.
2) There is limited FTA HD content on satellite platform.
3) Cost of integrating MHEG-5 is high and current Terrestrial TVs + STB combination would be cheaper.
4) Planned extension of DTT coverage will limit the need for satellite iDTVs

The above three are the key factors holding us back in investing dollars in satellite iDTV.
