Is there any possibility of Freeview certifying Integrated Digital TV (iDTV) that support DVB-S?  Ie If the manufactures brought in a TV that supports DVB-S for the others that live in the 25% not covered by Freeview|HD or the rest who don’t care about HD?

I don't think we'll see this, as they haven't even produced an approved satellite PVR yet after how many years.

There are lcd tv's with built in sat tuners but they are smallish and are non name brands.

I see there are UK “name brand” LCD’s that have DVB-S/2 tuners built in and some Sony Models with DVB-T/S/C tuners, so in theory it would be possible to get a DVB-S LCD into NZ.…  I'm guessing the manufactures would only bring them in if it was deemed profitable and they could get Freeview (Satellite) certification.

Yeah freeview cert here requires the implementation of the MHEG-5 EPG so most haven't bothered for the DVB-S market here. I think one of the higher end panasonic plasmas did have it built in which would have been cool, but not sure if it was included in the NZ release ones. Someone here will know that.

Thing is though, you can still use a sat receiver box aye, so it's not all lost. Just doesn't look so good a stand alone wall mounted TV, but then you're likely to hook at least a DVD player to any TV so no real biggy to include a sat tuner box as well.

Peter at Satlinknz mentioned that he had something along these lines in the pipeline when I went to pick up my Vu+. It could be worth dropping him an email or giving him a call. Google is your friend.

Loewe TV's (high end German made) used to have built in DVB-S decoders - not sure if they still do, give Eastern HiFi (or whatever it's now called????) a ring and ask them.

Oh - another point I missed in your post Jaxson.
None of the Panasonic models for the NZ market have built-in DVB-S, but it IS provided for other markets. Go figure.

Cheers xarqi, new someone would no this. I got the base S10 model for which a sat tuner was never an option, but I believe the G10's had this option, but obviously not in our market anyway.

Checked and the satlink TV's are 19" lcd's and include a DVD player and sat tuner.

The G10 for NZ didn't have DVB-S as far as I know. What it DID have, or so I understand, was a THX certified colour mode, sadly gone from the current models.

Sigh - I'll just have to make do with my 50V20!

It would be very hard to sell a dvb-s tv when it is sitting right beside ones running on -t in the showroom.

built in DVB-S is a waste anyway. you're better off with a dual channel dvb-s PVR so you can actually record stuff too :)

Not to any of the people that this thread pertains to, the 25% who cannot receive DVT-T or don't care about HD.
For them, the comparison is a couple of analogue channels on VHF versus the gamut of channels on FV and SBS.
