Can't please everyone I guess. As someone working in the industry I have to say it's a very bold move from tvnz, I like the interactive idea and good on them for trying something new.

Will be watching as my flatmate is going to have his own show on it

We're losing TVNZ6 for this? The "utter rubbish" and "sleazy rock videos" comments were right on. And they're so out of touch with the young generation that they posted a video in Quicktime? ;) I think this will go the way of the original TV4.

^^^^That is a pretty good summary of it all.

so 15 year old girls will be posting messages from facebook into a live stream on tv?, most people dont hide their profiles or anything. seems like a great tool for predators.

i dont mind the content, its not something i'd watch, but if they put all this rubbish on a separate channel then it wont appear on a decent channel, thus leaving us with better content (or more reality tv).

and how many people here commenting on this are between 15 and 24? (im 28).

manhinli: Cue Family First's/some outraged parents' comments against TVNZ U in 3, 2, 1...

Seriously though - I'm nearly 18 and I'm definitely not going to watch TVNZ U. TVNZ6 was reasonable, but this?!?!

"It's Time to Get Bent" (at the start of the QT preview clip) pretty much sums it up really...

I think Canwest wins this round.

.

Canwest is long gone and been replaced by bean counters in Ozz called Ironbridge years ago..

Seems a shame to lose TVNZ6 with it's great children's programming to this.

How about we all petition TV3 network to launch another Freeview channel that's dedicated to kids programming. I wouldn't even care if it had ads, or infomercials overnight!

D'oh!

Still, I stand corrected - I think the retooling of C4 & C42 into  "Four" and C4 beats this by a mile.
(And that's despite both of those channel names sounding similar)

Given it is election year and the sale of State Owned Enterprises will be on the agenda, this strikes me as a solid attempt by the TVNZ board to retain their tax payer Director fees since this will surely turn off any private enterprise buyer looking at buying TV assets.

Disc - not in the demographic U is aimed at. Finally an advantage to getting a bit older!

Best comment on the U Facebook page:

"If it's TVNZ and Facebook in collaboration, shouldn't it be TVNZ F U?"

hehehe.

there is a fair amount of criticism flying around here already.
let's reserve judgement until it launches - and when it does remember that it is trageted at 15 - 24 yr olds.
If they watch - then it is successful - if they don't then I guess it will be fairly short lived.
