Modern Family has also been taken off air.
Also similar thing happened to The Event? I'm sure the first season aired normally, then then final was on at some weird time, 2230 on a thursday or something.
Very frustrating.
Related - is there a financial reason for not showing shows more quickly after they air in the USA? i.e. Survivor... current season is up to episode 7 or so... but am sick of having to avoid finding out about the show... no sign of it airing in NZ. Also will it be in HD???

Cheers,
Joseph

Yep, pissed about modern family. Had just decided to let it catch up to where were at with torrents, internet sourced programming, and now it is off the air. Oh well, back to the internet.

Was annoyed when they did the same things with the Gruen Transfer. No explanation and it was gone. Still had listings on their site and had to email them to find it had been cancelled.

This is irritating but seems to be standard practice for the television industry. I chat with several people in the USA and they never know when programs are cut or cancelled (even with premium cable) till they go to program it in to their PVR...

I stopped following FTA when I decided I should be able to watch television when it is convenient to me and wanted to be able to decide whether or not to see a complete series within a reasonable timeframe.

Waiting for Survivor too, but if it's not in HD I won't even bother.
But yeah they are pushing my limits, im pretty sure they don't normally wait this long for Survivor.
The US is up to episode 9 already: http://tvcountdown.com/s/survivor

And as people have pointed out, when a half run show is taken off air and people don't know if or when it's coming back because they are treated with complete disdain by the networks, then they will find other ways of getting their *fix*. Perhaps they order off Amazon; perhaps they source it via torrents. Either way, they end up not purchasing from a local retailer and the perception is built that there is no market for TV shows on DVD/Bluray in New Zealand and so less releases make it here in the future.

Much the same thing with season 1 of V by screening it as a mini-series. I gave up on fringe via tv a year ago and would rather rely on the torrents - which are atleast regular. So TVNZ...people don't 'pirate' TV (which considering its already been broadcast I am loathe to call it 'piracy') because we're evil, we pirate because we want to see what we want to see before we retire.

incidentally...masterschef? No! Thats enough! Enough cooking programs already!

There was going to be a companion show on fishing, but for some reason "Master Baiter" wasn't thought suitable.

This all reminds me of how stupid the NZ ratings thing is anyway. I honestly think they have very little idea of the numbers watching their shows.

We seem to have a handful of people generating statistics and industry then putting a huge amount of faith in the numbers.

I'm not sure how it's done nowadays but a few years back I was asked to contribute but declined when they couldn't accommodate recording and watching later amongst other oddball aspects of the proposed system.

The rest of season  1 is way more interesting than what was shown here in the first part..

The best example of how crappy the ratings system in NZ is when Paul Holmes was always rate number 1 at 7.00pm on TV1  so good in fact that Prime poached  him across there for the same  type of program.  It bombed.  So all those people watching Holmes at 7.00 pm on TV1 would have most likely watch infomercials at that time as their sets were most likely hard wired for TVNZ.,.

It seems dramas are out this year and so are reality shows! (finally!) Unless they start with America - American Idol, Americas next top model, and the latest one - Americas next great restaurant!

I love that food shows seem to be in at the moment but not loving all the old movies much...

Currently spending my nights watching "lost" from the beginning with no ads on DVD...

keewee01: I think I am just going to hunt down the DVD box set from overseas and watch House that way.

As a plus you will get 5.1 surround sound that way as well.

What is the best LEGAL online alternative to FTA for New Zealand?

We have no Netflix or Hulu... but I'm curious to know what the options there are for us to watch international content (i.e. not tvnz on demand)

iTunes...?
But as far as I know stuff only appears on there after it has aired on NZ TV.

I'm also interested if there is a legal alternative like Hulu.

Wow really!?
I thought they had added it. Just had a look and your right, even there movies are kinda... way behind.

Damn well there goes that idea then.

What about Tivo?
Or do they only do Movies too?
oh no "download the latest movies and TV shows straight to your TiVo!"... but not really much help to those of us with no tivo.

I guess when they say "latest" they mean after they have aired on NZ TV... (I don't know though, I don't have one)
