The RF output is barely enough to drive a single TV, splitting it usually results in a snowey mess, particually if you are mixing in the offair antenna as well with all the noise it brings.
Rikkitic: While we're on the subject, what about inserting a splitter AFTER the STB? A friend has asked me about this. Her setup is dish feed and STB at one end of house with RF output via coax to TV at the other. Originally the family was walking back and forth to change channels! I couldn't stand this so got them a remote extender. Now they want to put a second TV in the bedroom. My thought is to use a splitter on the RF output of the STB and give them a second transmitter for the extender.
Why not just get cheap set top box units at all TV's and then they can independently watch any channel? Personally I'd forget about the crap quality RF distribution, with it's associated only watch one channel everywhere problems.
...Of course, as xarqi said, it should be remembered that the satellite STBs are not entirely independent if you're using a splitter. You can only watch channels from transponders that are on the same polarity. You'd be able to watch any Sky or Freeview channel on any of the STBs at any time, but you wouldn't be able to watch SBS or the Channel 9 channels (9, GEM, Go!) while watching a Freeview channel...
