I have this freeview decoder and I am able to pick up all the freeview channels and SBS 1 2 3 4 and HD also Trackside and the sky network tv radio channles. I just added in the transponder codes for the xtra channels and i was away.

Just to clarify a bit, there are only 2 distinct (in terms of programming) services available here from SBS, SBS ONE, also available in HD as "SBS HD" and SBS TWO. SBS 3 and SBS 4 are essentially identical to SBS ONE.
If that's not right, somebody please let me know! I'd hate to be missing out on two more fantastic channels, especially given the preponderance of ad-riddled drivel available on Freeview.
For the record this satellite box in question ($80 at Warehouse) does not do HD signals, be it HD DVB-S or DVB-S2. Whilst it will scan and find SBS One HD it will not display it in HD. It will however show SBS One and SBS Two in standard definition fine.
My point regarding upscaling to 1080i etc is that often it honestly doesn't look that much better than the original 'real' signal. It may look a bit better in your case, on your gear, but honestly I wouldn't pass over a good deal to add that feature that may or may not change much in the real world.
I have the Ultraplus 700 hdmi unit and this is SD only, no upscaling. I have had the Ultraphis 980 unit in the past and to be fair the picture quality on both was best when you didn't try to fudge the signal, ie leaving it as SD. However, if it was a genuine HD source, like SBS HD then obviously it looked the business on the HD capable 980 unit.
Is anyone who has managed to tune one of these to SBS able to kindly post a walkthrough?
I got one for my mother as the Warehouse has it for $79.99 again this week, and set it up last night. While it's basic, it doesn't seem to be a bad box quality wise - it does what it says it will pretty well. Perfectly adequate if you don't need a recording function.
Set up Freeview easily. Then tried for SBS using every option I could think of, including manually setting the frequency & symbol rate as per Lyngsat with vertical polarity, and blind scans in both Vpol and Hpol for all frequencies. Picked up a bunch of channels including all the Sky ones (encrypted and not viewable obviously). However, failed miserably to detect SBS at all.
Keen to get her the extra channels if I can. She doesn't have Sky and the Freeview lineup isn't actually that inspiring - and will be worse when TVNZ 7 stops.
Interested if anyone else who has this unit can advise: - whether they managed to get SBS, and if so - how they got it tuned to SBS.
