Has anybody out there used the Transonic brand, Freeview approved satellite decoder. Was a bit dubious about buying electronic products from the Warehouse.

old3eyes: Don't buy an aproved sat decoder if you want to want anything outside NZ like SBS in Ozz..
richms: What outputs does it have? The price is right in the range of the non approved composite only junk off trademe, so hopefully that will kill of the sales of that shyte.
richms: Yeah, but is that on a useless scart plug or RCA's or what?
ajw:richms: Yeah, but is that on a useless scart plug or RCA's or what?
RCA's I think.
richms: Cool, Just hope they include the cable. At least the warehouse dont pressure you into buying overpriced cables like harvey normans. I recall getting a $45 DVD player there for mum and being told that their cheapest component cable was like $60 or something. Errr, no thanks.
illicit: It is a re-branded DTVS receiver.
They are a very good unit (the only Freeview satellite receiver I stock)
They are the most reliable I have found and also have component out (via RCA's) as well as an extra pair of RCA audio out for the component.
Composite (yellow) and audio out #1 to connect to a recorder (DVD/HDD or VHS)
Component (green, blue, red) and audio out #2 to connect to the TV
It can tune any other DVB-S channels you want, with full 22k and Diseqc settings.
ajw:
After talking to staff at my local warehouse they are saying that they will soon have stock of upscaling satellite decoders brand unknown at this stage.

If you feed your TV a signal at a lower resolution than it is natively, the TV itself will 'upscale' this to fit the screen. My experience with cheap units that upscale is that it simply introduces a bunch of artefacts in the aim of making it look sharper. Most TV's will allow you to tweak the look of a particular input and this can lead to better results.
That unit is a good one and the price is very good as well. If it were me I'd buy it now.
