Can you give us an overview of what the "Freeview Organization" does and is responsible for.

Does Freeview have any influence over the broadcasters.  I guess the horse has already bolted but if Freeview is a kind of governing body then it could have minimum standards that broadcasters must meet. For example:

  • SD channel must meet video/audio bitrate x

  • HD channel must meet video/audio bitrate x

  • Channel must have x video bitrate, x audio bitrate and x number of audio channels to be called an HD channel on the Freeview platform and advertised as such. "Freeview Certified HD Channel" if you like.

Some simple standards/guidelines like this could ensure the consumer gets a quality product. Does Freeview have any interest in this or do they exist solely for the benefit of the broadcasters and their profits?
(That's an honest question, not being flippant or facetious)

I would like to know if the additional channels that were required by TVNZ and Mediaworks to be part of Freeview are permanent or can they be shut down after a few years? For example, do TVNZ need to keep a channel running on position 7 when TVNZ7 content funding ends?

don't mess with me.... i'm the hd insider....

Are they planning to ease any of the annoying restrictions on the features a box must not have in order to get Freeview accreditation and access to the MHEG5 EPG?

(eg the requirement that boxes can't have a 60 second skip button if they have hard drive recording)

Ill ask this again, it was ignored last time,

Does freeview have any plans to enforce their trademark use by people selling low quality non approved satellite receivers online and on trademe?

With the loss of government funding for TVNZ7 and the expected demise of the channel, do you see this as making Freeview a less attractive platform?

Where are the dates/times hat the freeview/hd extensions will be running?

It's not enough to announce that it will be ready for the world cup and not provide any actual dates by now.

End of June for all areas except Taranaki which will be the end of July. There have been a number of stories in the mainstream media over the last month discussing this.

Forest Hill here in Southland could be up in the air as a serviceman I emailed about some work told me, and I quote, "Freeview HD will not likely be on the air next week as they were only pouring the foundations for the tower last week!"

I've since emailed JDA about this as I emailed them last week and they said it was still on target as being "by the end of June" so I'm totally confused about the true status of Forest Hill.

The "Final" Live data has been pushed back a couple of times. It would be nice to get this confirmed by freeview to what the acutal status is of all the new sites.

My questions:

-Why has the quality from Sugarloaf deteriorated. ( I notice that TV3 looks slightly smudgy-er than it used to )

-Whats up with the bad audio codecs.

-Why is the program viewing time feel like its getting shorter & shorter & more & more ads.  (dont make me throw in another "and"....)

(Ive had this pointed out by lots of friends too, would prefer longer ad breaks & longer viewing time so less interruptions & so I can change the channel for longer periods.)

*Not sure if this has anything to do with you but...
-Im keen on some better channels too. Aka something to try rival discovery channel, movies , docos, history etc.

Daytime tv is a bit stale & the programs & movies played ive already seen ( shudders at reruns ).
Only changing thing is the news imo.

Are there plans to boost the signal strength from existing Freeview transmitters that provide a marginal signal with loss of picture in bad weather like the one at Haywards serving Upper Hutt?
