If I rewind the pause buffer after a "Stutter" event, and repeatedly replay it it doesn't glitch every time and when it does it's not always the same place, so I don't think it's transmission errors.

AllenG:
Nety: From the specs it seems to only have one tuner so you cannot for instance record from DVB-S and watch DVB-T.

I'll deliberately try recording 2 programs at once and see what happens...

Currently recording TV Four on DTT & SBS HD on Sat on a single Hybrid Hauppage HVR4400 Tuner

With one channel recording I can view any other channel as long as it is available on the other tuner. With both tuners recording I can switch between the two recording channels but choosing a third channel gives the "All Tuners are in use" message.

So If you have both sat & Terrestrial antennas connected and channels merged, it looks like you have two tuners available. Nice Smile

Regards Allen.

P.S. Using 9% CPU with 2 recordings

My understanding is that the HVR-3300 and HVR-4400 (both PCI-E cards) can use both DVB-S and DVB-T simultaneously, while the older HVR-3000 and HVR-4000 (PCI cards) can only use one at a time.

My HVR-3000 can (almost) definitely only use one at a time.

Pretty sure my Pinnacle 7010ix (dual DVB-S, dual DVB-T and dual analog) can receive 2 DVB-S and 2 DVB-T signals at the same time though. Would be great if I actually had DVB-T reception.

Hi AllenG

I've read this thred with great interest. I've just moved to MediaPortal, but at the same time I have been installing this, Gisborne has just got DTT service.

Previously I'd had Freeview via satellite, and as I was using Media Center which can only record one channel at a time on a single tuner, I made the decision to get a BlackGold BG3505 quad tuner (2x DVB-S and 2 x DVB-T). The advantage of this card was that I was prepared for the DTT go-live.

Like you, I immediatly noticed the difference between the systems. It was like night and day, and it had be wondering how backward NZ has been with its free to air television.

At the moment I'm contengind with the EPG. I have combined the channels and set the DVB-T card as the highest priority, but I am not sure the EPG is 100% working correctly. Anyway, that said I'll get it sorted.

.

On Media Centre before merging channels, I associated the DTT channels with the Satellite EPG. I have a fully populated guide. I think that DTT has now/next on DVB epg standard, but media centre would need to support the MHEG5 EPG standard to get the full 7 days on DTT. Not sure if it does?

At launch Freeview on Satellite was pretty good. As they have squeezed more into the muxes like multiple regional variants of TV1, the bitrate has gone down & down ....... I regularly see a sea of pixels on any content that has a lot of moving detail eg waves on the sea.

Will give Media Portal a try. Is it freeware?

It looks like the video Stutter may be to do with the ATI Catalyst driver for the video card. Plenty of forum posts about this, just no repeatable solution yet.

My event log is full of multiple information events from the catalyst driver. Hundreds a second. seems to recur in batches at random intervals. My bet is they co-incide with the video stutter. I will check the event log next time I see a stutter occur and see if they lighn up.

This is something to do with checking that the display device is HDCP compliant and the event log spamming is a known issue. The developer is aware of the issue and it is supposed to be resolved in the next release of the catalyst driver v1.7

My TV is the secondary display on my PC connected by VGA so it is not HDCP compliant.

Actually, I have experienced exactly the same thing that you are describing. I had a NVIDIA GT8400 video card where the fan started to get a bit noisy. Wanting a card without a fan, I bought a Sapphire Radeon HD 6450 which is fanless.

The card should have played HD effortlessly, however needless to say I am back to my NVIDIA card...

Just for laughs I downloaded and installed the most recent Catalyst software/drivers (1.6).

After a lockup, reboot, startup initiating checkdisk and finding problems, failed startup, startup recovery,  second attempt, video settings defaulting to Ugly, My PC is running with an up to date catalyst driver.

Bad news is it hasn't fixed the video stutter. possibly made it worse!

Oh well, just have to wait for 1.7

Hope the disc errors aren't a sign of impending disaster. 12 month old 1TB WD Caviar black FAEX. Better make some space on another drive for a full backup.

This post has drifted off the original subject some what. probably should be in the HTPC forum now. Sorry about that.

Regards Allen.

Ahhh.... I forgot to tell you about the "other" problem I had..

I had a 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black drive. When I was wantching time shifted TV, or recorded TV the video would freeze and then come up with "Video Error" periodically. It started once in a while, but then got worse. The funny thing is that it wouldn't do it with any downloaded videos.

It turned out the problem was a failing drive. I tested it with the Western Digital utilities avaliable on their website and it failed the SMART tests for writing.

My guess is that when Media Center was writing live TV or recording the file was being corrupted. When I went to play it back I was getting these errors.

This one had me stumped for a couple of weeks, and I tried all sorts of things, including buying the formentioned video card. It turned out to be a failing drive.
