I don't think the igloo is a PVR, it's basically just freeview type of tuner, with the ability to display some sky channels on a pay per month basis . The tivo is far more advanced in terms of the technology and specs. The more people that buy tivos the better, for future tivo support in nz

I think the Igloo device may be a form of PVR considering that it has USB support. Of course, if this is anything like MySKY HDi that means absolutely nothing.

I think the Igloo device?may be a form of PVR considering that it has USB support. Of course, if this is anything like MySKY HDi that means absolutely nothing.

From what I read the usb on the igloo is only for pausing live tv, up to four hours with a usb memory stick as per below. So nothing like the tivo

Yes you can by simply plugging in a USB stick.

A USB stick allows you to live pause and also to buffer for up to four hours depending on the size of your USB stick.

Bond's / Noel's won't care whatsoever re: Igloo's arrival... as they'll most likely sell it.
So why drop the price on TiVo?
To get sales that other retailers won't. Plus they get a swipe at selling an extended warranty, another HDMI cable etc. It's just a market share grab.
I'm not sure it needs to be so cheap though, after all, these prices seem exclusive to their company!
Still, it's a win for those in the market for a Freeview PVR.

That is a good point about the upselling, as it doesn't come with an hdmi cable, and those are high margin things in NZ. Mum and dad buyers probably aren't aware either that you can just buy an hdmi cable for $US5 online with free shipping to nz.

Really considering getting another one of these. Moving house soon and will be having my own self contained flat so more reason to have my own DVR. We've had one on the family TV for nearly 2 years I think? Love it to bits, except I want the HNP but I can't see how they justify their pricing for it so I refuse to buy it. This is a steal at that price too. Can't believe it.

It seems like a great price & it comes with the wireless adapter. I just figured there had to be something I was missing for a price like that.

Cheers for the link to the other thread, no idea how I missed that.

The shocking thing is that, until recently, the www.tivo.co.nz website was still clearly stating that neither Maori or Prime were on the EPG - and this is after both of them were! (and Maori had been on it for weeks at that stage). I see now they've updated this, which is just as well as it's now a key reason why TiVo's now worth buying.

I've had one a couple of weeks now a d love it, definitely worth the money. We had MySkyHDi before this and I don't miss that at all as we only really watched and recorded the free channels anyway. Plus we get the bonus of TiVo recording loads of suggestions for us, some good programs that I would have missed.
The more people who buy these the better, it might secure its future in NZ.

I also bought the HNP which is expensive but a great way of getting stuff off and onto your TiVo. I have a Mac and it took some time to get that side working but it's all good now.

That's a great price considering its "Official high definition multimedia interface certified".

It really is a shame they charge 1/3 of what you can get a 50" plasma for $2 worth of wire.

Just get any cheap HDMI cable from somewhere else.

People worried about Tivo not having HDMI cable are not really looking in the right places for that piece of the kit.

I went with the easier option of asking nicely for an HDMI cable to be thrown in for free with my purchase. It makes it much easier that way!

Things may have changed but I am pretty sure mine came with an HDMI cable, and every other cable known to man. In any event I last picked up an HDMI cable from Jaycar for around $12. So no big deal if not included.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
