jedney: I considered replacing my PlayTV with a TIVO, but it seems that it suffers a similar problem. I can't quite understand why when Freeview has access to all the EPG data, and clearly has the facility to transmit EIT data, that they don't do it?

TIVO has no such issues, they supply their own EPG, and do not use freeviews data.

It's a good question about the EIT data, which is broadcast in full on the older satellite freeview platform.  It is being used on the terrestrial platform too, but only to supply now/next data.  It could easily be expanded upon and freeview seem very loathe to do this.

Is it worth asking them to do this (supply a full 7 days via EIT on terrestrial) again?

Can someone work out how to phrase the question?, (I think it's been addressed above already), along the lines of:  With all this competition, freeview is missing out by not providing a base to satisfy users requirements.  eg TIVO  has a nicer epg because they supply their own data and layout, and they allow copying off of the saved programs etc.  (By the sounds of it that's illegal, but hey, they are doing it, and making money charging for the networking package to achieve it.)

Not sure where you got this information. TiVo has the complete EPG for a week and it's sourced from elsewhere.

Won't hurt asking.

People, shall I make a "master sticky link post" linking to all Q&A we ran through them so you can read previous answers for questions?

That would be useful thanks, sorry I hadn't spotted the other Q&A session. I find with problems like this it's not usually worth reading too far back as things change so rapidly.

Thanks for the TIVO info.

Oh yeah, my other one is how concerned are freeview about their brand and association to dodgy hardware?

The original Zinwells (that somehow magically got the jump on every other manufacturer...) are all dying and my JC Matthews unit is a heap of poorly coded crap, but all have freeviews logo slapped on the front of it. The end user doesn't necessarily associate these problems with the brand and often leaves with a poor taste of 'freeview' So my question is about the certification process and how much checking freeview actually does about how the hardware/software perform etc.

Why do recordings set via the EPG sometimes record TV3+1 instead of TV3?  And is there any way to prevent it?

The Freeview coverage checker (http://www.freeviewnz.tv/coverage.aspx) currently doesn't provide the same information as the PDF maps. For example, http://www.freeviewnz.tv/userfiles/pdfs/tauranga.pdf shows most of Whakatane "in the green" (and it works perfectly) but the address-based checker says that HD is unlikely to work. Can these discrepancies be fixed to avoid more misinformation?

And are freeview intending to offer a better EPG option, in line with the competitors who allow searching by keyword, show channels adjacent side by side ish (allows you to see the next 4 hours of all channels very quickly etc), preloads data so it is quick and responsive, and looks better on a HD TV set (rather than the CRT tailored type one currently offered) and offer 14 days worth of info etc....

Any news on what (if anything) will replace TVNZ7? Is it up to TVNZ to provide the replacement or is that channel allocation open to anyone?

Why was Optus D1 the choice of Freeview Satellite at the time? by 2015   25 channels will perhaps be on Freeview HD while those on satellite will be limited to 14 same old channels.

Given the number of questions they ducked last round:

"Can you tell us exactly what Freeview NZ is, and isn't, responsible for?"

Will ChoiceTV be broadcasting on the Freeview satellite service?

Is digital teletext coming to Freeview?
