IceFragmatic:

Is anyone getting messages about "we are restarting your device to improve system performance" often when waking the box out of sleep mode?
Makes a quick start device not so quick.

Not sure where my post went?.... I've had my A2 since it was released and pretty happy with it, a few annoying issues:

  • the recent "The Android System is restarting to improve performance" seems to happen every 2nd or 3rd time I wake the unit.
  • Auto wake/sleep, I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen or not?
    - sometimes I turn the TV on, the Amp turns on automatically (ARC) and most times the A2 wakes.
    - but sometimes it doesn't so it needs manually turning on. Likewise with off/sleep, sometimes auto, sometimes manual.
    - then more annoyingly, I turn TV on and select a different input (eg PC), the A2 wakes a minute later and the TV changes the input.
  • I seem to still have audio stutter/hesitation every 30 seconds or so, tho it has improved and is less noticeable.

The time shift has improved much since older firmware so happier with this.

I am getting tonight 'account action required' or something like that (tho On Demand stuff is still working), so perhaps something has expired or signed out.

Matt

I agree, we are getting the same issues. We have our A2 feeding the TV through a Denon AVRX and have the same issues as you.

Hello Dish TV team....please fix the restart issue as this box has taken a massive step back in reliability due to it. Recordings are getting disrupted half way through.

Have you got a plan to release a fix soon? We are coming up on 4 weeks since the issue started.

I agree my wife it totally frustrated with these restarts and it’s been on going since the last update.

We are also experiencing small glitches in live free to air picture and audio via UHF. It’s random and on going regardless of channel.

I may get proved wrong, but I don't think it is a Dish TV issue, but Google.  I have traced the problem to the Google App updates.  To control the reboots to a time you want it to happen as a fix if you go into into APPS, Get more Apps, My Apps then Settings and Turn off Auto updates.  Then just check the MY Apps and it will tell you if an Update needs to be installed and reboot.  This is all at atime that is suitablt to you.

Hope this helps.

Have you got one of these boxes? Did that fix the issue? Or is it a guess? The reason I ask is the restarts happen as soon as you take the device out of standby. If it was an auto update and rebott I would have thought that would happen as the same time each day.

Hi, yes I have one of the boxes, I have had it from when they first came out.  So far it has worked for me in the last 3 weeks.

OK will try this....not sure why that is causing the restarts - unless they slipped an OS update in as well last time the firmware was updated.

Of note - I have a MiBoxS as well - so do get the menus mixed up a bit....was there any CEC settings in the A2 settings? I cannot fin=d them now. Is this a memory failing of mine, am I going blind, or have they been removed?

Turning off google auto update seems to have stopped it, but it was intermittent so shall see.  But hasn't resolved the lag between TV on and box wake up that started at the same time.

That'd be an awful lot of updates then. I see the box restart a few times a week. It doesn't sound right.

That comment did cause me to think there could be an update that was having difficulty installing.  Chromecast built in was sitting there waiting to install, so I've done that put it back to autoupdate and I'll wait and see.

Had the auto updates disabled and had another restart today. So that was not the fix.

I have now installed the update - so hope this resolves the restart issue. This is apparently a feature as per message from DishTV

"This restart was added as a temporary measure to help improve the units performance once we are able to provide a better solution we will update the software to stop the restarts."

I made the suggestion that allow a user to set restart times would have been better. Restarts when a user turns on the box during prime time mean partial recordings....grrrrr....This was a classic example of two steps forward, one step back.

Of note - I checked the settings to see if a reboot time option had been added, and noticed my resolution had reverted back. You may want to check all settings after this update.

We have a problem with the EPG on Prime. Usually our box is left turned on so we don't have to pit up with the slow restart with the 'we are restarting your device to improve system performance' message at each switch on. It is truned off with the remote as it is not controlled by the TV etc.

After a few days, the EPG on Prime no longer works so any scheduled recordings fail saying ther box must be turned off. To get the Prime EPG back, it just needs a switch off and back on again. This has only happened since the last update.

We only have satellite receotion here as there is no terrestrial broadcast in Blenheim.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the next update when it is available.

As for Netflix, I sideloaded it but it still won't run. I had to do the same with Amazon Prime video. At least that would run on the Dishtv box but I couldn't get the app to appear in the in the apps list. I use a separate cheap Android box which works well for both Netflix and Amazon Prime through 2 Degrees. The whole idea of the new box was to get rid of the old Chinese one to keep things simple.

Grant.
