I only see the momentary freezes when there is a construction crane turned so part of it is between my aerial and the transmit tower.

What is your signal strength like? That could be the issue?

What is your signal strength like? That could be the issue?

I have very good signal strength but Dishtv support have acknowledged that this is an issue. It was to be fixed in an up coming firmware update and I thought that it might have been included in the last one. Appears not.

I’ve found a work around for pairing this box to my Harmony Smart Hub, I’ll post instructions once I have all the buttons mapped and confirmed it all works as expected 👍🏻😄

I have managed to get this working with my Harmony setup (regardless of type) by getting Dish TV to add IR to the box and then programming the remote as per normal.

Contact Dish TV on Facebook and confirm you can send your box to them to have IR added. Then get their address, send it in and add a note requesting IR be added and include your return address.
Dish TV will install an IR Sensor and send it back (via Courier at no cost... takes approx 5 working days).
You can get them to send you an IR Remote back too (I would recommend this at a cost of $35 or less for a second-hand one if they have stock)
Program your Harmony Remote with:
- Manufacturer: Dish TV
- Device Model Number: S8300
Note: You will need to program Apps and Volume buttons

Done.

can someone confirm what apps are available? I'm interested in Netflix, Lightbox, Kodi, Spark Sport plus the usual NZ / international ones.

Spark Sport, Lightbox, Plex, Youtube, TVNZ, Spotify, Kodi are all supported from the Play store natively. You can also side load some apps but will have varying degrees of success. e.g. the Netflix Android TV app doesn't work but the Android phone/tablet version kinda does (it has quirks).

Note: Side load at your own risk.

Plus all the usual OnDemand channels are there, TVNZ1, TVNZ2, Three, ThreeLife, Maori, Bravo, TVNZD, Te Reo

Is anyone finding the video feed freezes but the audio keeps going, for 10-40 seconds or so?

Happens to me every ~10 minutes.

Not sure if that's a fault or a bug?

So I'm sure its been posted here but Dish TV confirmed that there is no roadmap to get the A2 certified for Netflix; it will happen whenever it happens... Shame as this would have been a great device with access to the NZ app library.

Way back in December 2018 they said this:

In classic PR style it makes literally no promises about when, or indeed if, Netflix may arrive on this box.

This may or may not be a problem for you (I've got three or four different devices that can do Netflix) but it does seem like the elephant in the room for a box that's marketed as bringing broadcast TV, catch-up and streaming apps into a single box.

I was originally looking at one of these as a family friendly solution that could bring everything into a single device and didn't involve buying a new "Smart TV" that will be as dumb as a brick within 3-5 years.

From what I've gathered to date, this probably isn't the device I am looking for.

The Smart Vu X doesn't do netflix either does it without a sideload and issues... I think they have failed badly in their approach to get all in one devices without getting Netflix on board.
