Well it seems mine isn't a fan of how hot it gets. Longer I use it the more things start glitching with white flashes and crackling on audio. And eventually WiFi stops till I manually stop and start it again. Glitches in netflix / YouTube and plex - more so in plex though.

Seems to get very hot so I'm not surprised. I was thinking about rigging up a fan to it. But might at if I can get it replaced first and see if that fixes some problems - it is less than a week old after all.

Is the heat the possible reason I have issues streaming spark sport on this?

Via chromecast.. just randomly freezes and then struggle to restart the stream as it seems to confuse itself

Via Kodi and MJH Addon - audio isn’t in sync

It would seem like a little project for someone to dismantle and install a heatsink and film it for youtube.

It is easy to dismantle a Smartvu with a small pocket knife :-)

A Youtube video is a bit pointless as it does not clearly identify any issues with the Smartvu.

Maybe mine is particularly bad but its rare it'll get thru anything on netflix without the audio popping at least a couple of times and the screen flashing a few times.  Plex and Kodi are particularly bad - I had it stop a movie 3 times which Im sure is all just due to overheating.  Wifi stops working all the time - have to turn the wifi off/on to get it working again.

I have an android tv cooler on its way (had it already ordered for another device) so when that turns up I'll take a look and see if that makes any difference - and there I was thinking my Chromecast Ultra ran hot!

Does sound like you may have a faulty one. I can have mine running for a number of hours without issue but it does get really hot. Less than a minute of complete power off (remove power source) when it does fall over resolves the problem. I haven't worked out what the tipping point for mine is, mainly because it does run for ages at a time. I've thought about running it from USB like @eracode but when the TV is off it wouldn't be in standby mode and I quite like being able to turn the TV on/off and control the viewing source all with one remote.

I think you should return it and try another one.  Mine gets hot, but I can have a decent binge session with it.  Although I don't use Plex or Kodi - maybe that is a compatibility problem.  The TVNZ On Demand app has given me a bit of grief, but it's a poor app on any device and platform, in my experience.

Anyway, a replacement device should help you figure out what's going on.

I've used mine a reasonable amount with Plex and had no issues. I've used Kodi a little but not really enough to comment on.

It does seem to support ethernet via USB. Dishtv sell a kit for $24 - https://www.dishtv.co.nz/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=186
I tried my chromecasts one and that appeared to be working.

A good thing too because I was trying to cast with it and it was freezing all the time!  They'll need to fix that before people realise and start losing their minds over it.  Pretty impressed though - Wimbledon coverage offers general live streams of each session plus streams of all of the major courts.

Has anyone tried Parsec or Steam Link on these?  I'm potentially looking at replacing my nVidia Shields for local support for lightbox, spark sport etc.  I use the sheilds to stream games to the tvs with the controller passed through using usb over IP... Also, is the ondemand system for freeview up and running yet?

Sorry, also how well does Kodi run?  I had a mibox 4K and it wouldn't run kodi at all well however the shields have no issues.
