To whom it will be interesting:

I can now confirm it works with ethernet, I'm using this adapter https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32846242794.html, I disabled WiFi and use static ip address. Tested about an hour cause I forgot my Freeviewnz password, tested with TVNZ on demand/Live TV/One channel. Spark Sport works fine too, I mean there is not much to watch (not much content) and I just subscribed for RWC2019.

For those of you with overheating units, how are you powering them? Dish TV have confirmed that if the unit has insufficient power such as when connected to a USB socket on a TV it causes trouble and I'm curious if this is the problem for many people?

From their supplied charger.. Which from memory is a 2000mAh? Using their supplied cables.

It only has the main channels I believe and does not carry Prime so you'd still need some ability to record that as Sky own and distribute. The A2 box would do what you want in a more traditional way but without netflix support.

As long as you have a UHF aerial and a good digital signal, you could consider a modified Tivo box. These are very much loved by owners and could take the place of your expensive MySky box, operating similarly, but with Freeview channels only.

It is nowhere as reliable as freeview UHF. That is largely the software though, as it is buggy. If you press the freeview button more than once it will load up multiple audio streams slightly out of sync. Sometimes it fails to load initally as well. Plus you can't record, and ondemand is quite limited, and the programs don't stay on it for very long, so you often can't watch a whole series, just the last few weeks. A rechipped Tivo with a new harddrive, or a panasonic freeview recorder will be better IMO if you have a good freeview signal, if you are wanting to record programs.

On-demand is available but only for TV series and shows. You can't record anything so you won't have the news for example unless you watch "live"

Dish TV are confident that it is only related to underpowering the unit from things like a TV USB port rather than from the built in adapter. I'm still curious about the unit replacing my nvidiia Shields (I don't need gamestream any more which was one of the reasons I bought it) and having a local NZ unit would be better for apps I want.

I guess I'm more interested in the proliferation of overheating, i.e. is it all, certain batches etc. before I potentially look at replacing my shield in the lounge at least.

I've had overheating issues and have only ever had it running from their supplied adaptor with their supplied cable. Potentially the ethernet adaptor will help in this area as the unit won't be running it's wifi chips any more. Haven't had the overheating issue for sometime though now that other family members turn the unit off (well, at least put it into standby) when it's not being used.

Hmmm I'd be interested to know how that goes; I use ethernet on my Shields so if the over heating is due to wifi then I'd be ok.
