Benoire:

For those of you with overheating units, how are you powering them?  Dish TV have confirmed that if the unit has insufficient power such as when connected to a USB socket on a TV it causes trouble and I'm curious if this is the problem for many people?

This isn't the problem in my case. I am using the USB adapter provided in the box hand have been since I bought it, and the WIFI connection will regularly fail and fail to reconnect until a power cycle happens.

I have mine powered from a TV USB socket and have had no problems - yet. I like this approach because it means the SV is not powered-on all the time - only when the telly’s on.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

RWC promo email just received from TVNZ in relation to their RWC coverage states:-

We won’t be streaming Rugby World Cup 2019™ on tvnz.co.nz, TVNZ OnDemand apps or through Freeview SmartVU.

Spark Sport will have all 48 matches available to stream online.

Thats gotta suck for all those people who ditched their aerials and hoped just to watch the FTA games on TVNZ without paying extra.

They have been advertising that during ondemand shows for the last 2 weeks, must be don't have the rights for online streaming. Interesting to know how streaming rights work

Hmmm?
We went away for the weekend and when We got back I switched the box on I got the “restarting to improve performance” message.
Now I have no TV3

I do have all the other channels (including TV3+1)

A forced scan of both the satellite and individual TPs don’t revel it.. Anyone else? Or tips to get it back?

Cheers

It worked really well, both watching live and on demand.

So does that mean that devices like the smartvu  where people are using it as a UHF  replacement will stop working on those channels when the games are on. That is pretty terrible, especially for those people who can't get a TV signal. My parents couldn't get a reliable  uhf signal without pixilation so purchased a smartvu to get FTA tv, I hope they sort that out.

Just been informed by the help desk that an update will be coming out very soon that will allow bluetooth devices to be connected.

Does anyone who owns one of these know if it has parental controls? On our Apple TV we have adult content password protected so our kids don’t stumble on anything too inappropriate.

I installed one of these yesterday for the first time - really impressed with it, other than how hot it runs! Man the thing cooks - seems to be especially bad when outputting at 4k and during streaming. Can't imagine it lasting a great length of time TBH.

What are other people's experiences with the heat of the device?

They run hot.  I run mine on top of a 80mm fan slowed down to very quiet noise.  Makes a difference.  Still has moments of continual disconnecting from the wifi though.  Seems to depend on what your streaming too as to how well the wifi will stay connected. Ive found YouTube tends to make it far more flaky.

My current one is MUCH more reliable than my previous one and keeping it cool seems to make a big difference for me.  Just some nights it will do the whole wifi is connected but nothing is working thing.  And yeah it seems to be mainly youtube where it does it.  And occasionally Netflix.  Rarely in Plex.
