Ventura: Beetle, can you put up the 1.3.0 update to see if it makes any difference to my system?

It wont , its a transport stream issue , and is being worked on

Would upload the 1.3.0 firmware, but max upload size on a post is 200K, and the file is 1.9MB. I agree with  Brunzy-- it won't make a difference until the stream/PVR incompatibility is solved. That will probably take a change on the Freeview side. FWIW, 320T responded quite well this evening, so maybe something has changed.

I watched a recorded programme last night after pulling the aerial out of the JC Matthew PVR and had a much better response from the remote control.  Still have the freezing and pixelation problems though.

And then, of course, I had to put the aerial back in to watch normal TV and record further programmes.

The EPG is still frustrating to navigate - so slow!!  I also had no joy from uploading the latest firmware.

Guess we will just have to wait for a fix from the manfacturer or Freeview.

If it had been working for a long time and then suddenly failed the it's unlikely to be firmware, unless somehow every one of you managed to corrupt your firmware somehow at the same time.

Good luck with that.  JC Matthew won't have done anything new to the unit in a long time, so I'd expect this problem to be freeviews creation.  The question then becomes, are freeview able to fix whatever they changed, as in have they added some feature that they now don't want to remove again, or can JC Matthew dust off the unit in the corner and start working with it to manage the new signal from freeview...

I just registered so that I could add something to this topic.  Last night in after a what seemed like weeks of problems with my JC Matthews DVR -320T I decided the google it and found this forum.  We were very close to buying a new FREEVIEW recorder even though ours is only a couple of year old.  I have all the same problems that others are describing.  The slow remote  EPG, fast forward and rewind makes me want to smash it  especially when it suddenly catches up and takes you right past the ads you are trying to avoid at 16X and into the next ad break - and we have changed the batteries so often we lost the back cover of the remote. 

I could not believe it last night when I unplugged the aerial and all the remote problems stopped and the EPG came up immediately not after 20-50 seconds as it has been lately

I emailed freeview with the problems and they replied :

Hi Polly

As Freeview do not manufacture or sell digital television equipment we are unable to assist with queries of this nature.

We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of your digital receiver for technical assistance.  A list of contact numbers can be found on the Freeview website: http://www.freeviewnz.tv/equipment-installation/approved-products.aspx

unfortunately the link did not take me anywhere so I found another site for JC mathews and emailed them too - yet to hear the reply. 

I am not a geekzone type of girl so was lucky to find this site I imagine there are many many others of us out there that are just thinking our recorders are stuffed! 

I am starting to sense some sort of cover up espeically with my FREEVIEW reply - why did they not give me any indication that others are having the same issues!!

I have my fingers crossed someone can work it out - because I used to love my PVR !!!  and all the good shows are on at once so taking out the aerial leaves you unable to tape anything else.  sigh...

However freeview do approve units as meeting their specific requirements, and then agree to have their logo plastered over the front of the unit they apparently have no involvement with...

If you look up the recorders on the FreeView site it now shows the Zinwell and JCMatthew recorders as obsolete.

Just because they choose to label them "obsolete" (I really think they mean discontinued) I don't think that's an excuse for them to no longer work at all. They were working quite happily until a specific change was made to the broadcast.

Now, Freeview know about this and I believe the manufacturer knows what the problem is so we just have to wait for them to fix it. I do not believe they can or will ignore this problem.

I don't think that they can ignore the issue as they'd be in breech of the Consumers Guarentees Act.
Fingers crossed we get a solution soon.

I agree pollywilson, there must be loads of JC Matthews PVR owners who are smashing furniture in their living rooms over this! Many of us happened upon this thread only because we were keen to find out if the problem was documented, and I for one and certainly relieved to know that it's not just me (and thanks to the GZ forum for hosting this discussion!). Is there any way to 'up the ante' with FreeView on this?

Hi, I'm also experiencing the same problems.  Thought I was going to have to replace the HDD or something, so glad to know it is not a problem with my box, but rather more likely with the data stream.  Very annoying problem so hopefully it will be fixed by Freeview and/or JC Matthew soon.   Anyone gets wind of a fix, please post it here.

According to the update here (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/99ijdy2d5vkvke5/LjsBjkHYYL) it's going to be a few weeks before things are working properly for the Zinwell. Hopefully this will also be applicable for this box.

Hi

I have also been having similar issues listed above by other users.  I am so glad to see i am not the only one.  I was all ready to go out and buy another freeview recorder until i came across this forum.  I had put my bad luck down to buying my JC M DVR 320 from one of those many online website offering good deals for a day. I have decided it is not worth buying electronic items like that again, just not worth the hasle. 

Look forward to loving my freeview recorder again.

** JC Matthew DVR320T Freeview Recorder update - 19/10/2012
We have become aware of some issues as a result of  the changes made to the Broadcast data from Freeview on September 28th 2012.

The DVR320T is fully Freeview Approved.

Please be assured that there is NO fault with the DVR320T and the issue lays with the changes to the data structure.

This can cause delays when pressing buttons such as EGP, fast forward and sometimes even causing recorded program  to temporarily freeze.We apologise for the inconvenience, despite the problem not being a fault with our Freeview recorder.

We are working with the manufacturer in Taiwan and Freeview New Zealand to find a suitable remedy.

We ask all users of the DVR320T to please be patient while we work through  and find a solution. At this stage we do not have a firm date when the problem will be rectified, but rest assured we are working hard on this issue. 

Once the issue has been resolved, it may require a firmware update to be installed, which we will post on this site for download , along with instructions on how to install.

Way to pass the buck, JCMatthew. So, actually, Freeview is to blame? I'm not sure whose fault it is, but it's really starting to annoy me!

Shouldn't they have tested the new data structure against all the existing PVRs (especially popular ones like the Zinwell launch model).
