DjShadow: Problem is:

TVNZ didn't want it back
TV3 made a huge loss on it plus 3news would get in the way and FOUR is "sport free"
Could of gone to Prime but I guess Prime news gets in the way

not really any options left

It's more that TVNZ and TV3 can't afford rather than not wanting it.

BlueShift:
Bee: One can only hope that this could form the basis for a Motorsport ONLY channel on Sky...

Good plan - F1, superbikes, V8s, Supercross, etc, etc

Only another $10 / month like SoHo..

I would also pay for a Motorsport only channel. I currently download it but would rather not.

Saying that though I decided to go to Bathurst this year was going to Sydney anyway the next weekend so just moved my trip forward.

Its on D2

Broadcast in DVB-S2 and 4:2:2

Good coverage on Sky of qualifying and the top 10 shootout. no ads. Hope it stays the same for the races.

They already have the F1 (FP1, FP2, FP3, Quali and the race) and now the V8's on sky sport, and I thought they also already had the superbikes and supercross, but I don't follow that closely.

As a motorsport fan I would still rather not pay for an additional channel when I get the majority of the content as part of sky sports already. For me it would be what NEW content would they get that would justify a motorsport-only channel (Maybe Le mans? Touring cars?)

If they do it like the rugby channel it would be a case of the mainstream stuff on sky sports and extended coverage on the rugby channel anyway. So for example they would still have the F1 race on sky sports, but move the practice sessions at least (maybe qualifying as well) to the motorsport channel.

(And you still need to pay for sky sports package to get the rugby channel, so you would likely need to pay for sky sports+motorsport as well.

Cheapest option would be to buy a cheap USB satellite tuner stick or card for your pc. The 422 isn't an issue.

There are plenty of Police at the event and it's returning to the popular event that it ought to be. Yes, there are some dickheads but with around 200,000 people visiting over a few days, that's always going to happen I guess.

I have been twice, really enjoy it and keep going back every 2 years as part of a small group.

Went to the Gold Coast 600 last year for the first time and to be honest, we all prefer the atmosphere of Bathurst. I certainly wouldn't be looking to camp at the top of the mountain although it is better and safer up there now than it has been in years gone by. I'd suggest just plan your trip by speaking to others who have been before.

PS Got to see the Clipsal racing after all today, thanks to the WWW. Good to see a kiwi on the podium!
