Zippity: Their MotoGP coverage was nothing short of brilliant.

Will Sky pick up this coverage?

I doubt it

It was, although the quality was just ok. Just ok, as in my interest is the sport, but "alternative" sources will be better

Cloudy: What always had me baffled was how they made any money to cover costs. I watched and loved the MotoGP but they would show the whole race and not a single ad. For a free to air channel I would have expected several ad breaks during each race. I have no problem with ad's if it means we get to see good sports free to air. On the quality isssue I had no problems on my 42" panasonic. Picture was perfectly watchable.

It was perfectly watchable but nor perfect. 720p would have been nice but it seemed SD. But, the sport event outweighs the quality,but be nice to have both

Quality issues accepted, it's still a shame they are gone.

I'm not a big sports junkie, and don't bother with Sky Sports. Sommet, along with the delayed rugby coverage on Prime, was good enough for my (very occasional) sports fix. Plus, it's good for Sky etc to face a bit of competition.

We have a 65" and it was terrible.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

So Sommet had gone the way of the dodo then such a shame really now whats left sky sports blow that I'd rather have a few ads than pay those leeches

I enjoyed the motogp and other motor racing. Had no problems with quality sorry to see them go

I've watched a load of international hockey lately and it's all been on Livestream. The streaming quality has been really good along with the production (commentators and camera). The nice thing is that I can watch a game live or just hop onto the website and view a previous match. The only thing I miss out on are replays (really only important when you want to review a goal).

If more sports just go onto the interwebs streaming directly, then sports channels would become irrelevant.

Is the idea of Sommet Sport crowd funding a way of them coming back on air? Would you support it financially? This is being discussed on their Facebook page.

The other problem with crowd funding is that it is really only a short term fix and a lot of the people who says they will donate actually wont.

Very doubtful about crowdsourcing for this. Perhaps a better way would be for the Lightbox sport initiative to pick up some of the Sommet sports (AFL, MotoGP CPL etc.) and offer them on their platform cheaply. I see they have French Rugby for $5 a month. That way the market can decide, and you could avoid the massive Freeview costs, which I don't think would be covered long term by crowd sourcing.

The only one they could do an online service with is the AFL. CPL only lasts a month and MotoGP's are every 2nd week and they have their own online service anyway.

The type of sports that would work with an online service has to be ones that last at least 8 months a year and have multiple events/days to watch.
