KiwiNZ: Jim Hickey was good, Paul Henry was a bigoted dickhead his racist outburst anti disabled rants we offensive.

Quoted for the untruth.

We need more Paul Henrys and soon, least we all migrate to solutions other than Freeview / SKY.

Breakfast on TV1 is terrible now. Can't stand to watch 5 minutes of it.

As somebody else said, Paul called a spade a spade. Too many people these days are scared to do that.

Personally, Jim Hickey irritated me. He had a penchant for baby-talk, silly statements, and generally speaking to the audience as if they were five years old - and making the weather take twice as long as it should to do so. However, It must be six months (at least) since I last saw TV1 news, and I didn't even realise he had gone.

As for Paul Henry, yes he could be a bit of a pratt on occasion and had a small schoolboy's sense of humour. However, at least he brought some colour to an environment dominated by insipid and cloying political correctness - where everyone seems to have to walk on eggshells, be devoid of any personal opinion out of line with official orthodoxy, and be afraid of their own shadow. So, on balance, I think his leaving is a loss.

Lets be fair, the best part of the Paul Henry show was his co-presenter. If it weren't for her no guys would ever watch the show

He's one of very few right leaners within our local news media and for that i thank him for showing a bit of a backbone at times, yes some of his prior antics are questionable but find me a vocal media person that hasn't said wrong or inappropriate comments from time to time

Or maybe a lot more people respect others and dont resort to his bilge.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Paul Henry and Hone Harawhira. One offends middle class white men, one offends the rest of the world. Any other real differences?

Do you mean apart from the missing zero on the end of Hone's IQ?

I suspect your views are in the minority.  Companies are not in the business of losing money, including the TV companies which continue to employ him.  If most people didn't see him for what he is then they wouldn't watch his shows, and they'd make no money from them.

Unfortunately it is this sort of attitude that is quickly turning our country into a nanny state.  This and "everyone is a winner just for trying" in schools....

Having no tolerance for racism and anti disabled bigotry is not being a nanny state.

I think Paul Henry is a fantastic interviewer.

I can't actually remember a "Racist outburst" nor do I remember an "antidisabled  rant". I do remember him saying that Susan Boyle was retarded (she clearly is) and he was the only one in our media who pronounced Sheila Dick...t's (geekzone wont let me use her name) name correctly (as confirmed by her) He also laughed at a woman's decision to sport a mustache, but hey, if she wants to display a lack of fashion sense she should expect to be laughed at.

Glad to have never have made your acquaintance.

He does go overboard at times, but it's usually blatantly obvious that he's only doing so to get a rise out of people.

I certainly "get" Henry a lot more after TPHS. I think his style was well suited for late-night.
