Sorry too late for Prison Break but here we go...

Step 1 - Yes install the Freeview Registry file first. This effectively tells Media Center that the HVR-3000 DVB-S card is a DVB-T card.

Step 2 - Setup Media Center TV again

For location tell it your in Australia - this is critical if you tell it your in NZ it won't use the DVB-S_as_DVB-T changes, it will look for stuff that isn't there. By telling it your in Australia it does 2 things - firstly it uses the DVB-T tuner (which in turn is redirected to the DVB-S tuner by the registry mod), and secondly allows you to select an Internet based guide source.

Select Antenna for the source and DVB-T if you get that option.

When it asks if you wish to use the guide just say no for now.

When you scan for new services it should find around 18 services, which is all the Freeview channels, many of which are Reserved.

This will get you up and going without the guide for now, and test the channels are all working.

I'll send through some more stuff with exactly how to setup the guide.

Ok, understand on the choosing Australia part.

But if I do this wont it screw my xmlTVNZ guide? Which will bugger my girlfriend's scheduled recordings? Which will eventually bugger me when she gets back????

I charged on regardless and followed the steps in your previous post. Chose Australia, Antenna, DVB-T, no to guide. Then I did a chennel scan twice, and no services received either time.

I checked the settings in my Sky decoder earlier tonight and it said 113000, so I left the Freeview reg file as is (the one you posted to this thread earlier.

I live in an apartment block where we all share the same Sky dish but have our own decoders. Would that make any difference?

Did you reboot after the registry file? If you didn't the reg change won't have taken effect.

Check the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HCW88BDA\Parameters

make sure DVBS_as_DVBT is set to 1

If you already had the guide working you can continue to use the one you setup ie say Yes to the Guide, 0000 for the zip code etc.

Apartments shouldn't make any difference - as long as the cards plug into the dish it should be ok, especially if you've already got Sky.

Otherwise the only other thing I can think of is that the card has no signal... ie a cable issue

Too late for you but I'll set the Vista Guide files up in an MSI installer file which should make it alot easier for first timers... we've all been there....

I don't have the path C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\EPG on my PC (even though the key also pointed to this path), and a search of xml and sdf files names with the string of numbers from the registry key did not find anything.

I've got an eHome directory, but that's located at C:\Windows\eHome, and no EPG folder exists under that...

Duh again. Never got to turning off the hidden files hider. Now I can see ProgramData. But interestingly enough, there is only an sdf file for that key, no xml files exist in the EPG subfolder.

Hey Rusty,

Got about 50% through the guide and had to call it a night.

Shared channels - how do they work in Vista? Following is my ultimate goal:

- To have TV1, TV2, TV3, C4 etc (FTA channels) from both Freeview and Sky.
- When I am recording one of the FTA channels, to do so using the Freeview feed so it leaves the Sky feed free to view other channels.

How do I set up VMC to do this? Has this got something to do with shared channels?

You seem to be putting a bit of presure on yourself to get this up and running in a hurry. From everything i have seen and experianced setting up a media centre is more something that you do over weeks then a couple of days....

If it were going to take me weeks to set up a my media centre to receive TV signals then I never would have started!

I agree with you that setting up an entire solution takes the length of weeks. I've had one tuner card running for a couple of weeks now, but don't have the luxury to undo it all for another couple of weeks to get a second card working. It shouldn't take this long anyway, and plenty of people have set theirs up in a matter of hours.

And I'm coming in at the stage where it's been done enough to be able to achieve it in a matter of hours.

BUT...I'm running into the issue that a lot of guys probably encounter. Fiddling with anything to do with the lounge TV is always difficult. The wife/girlfriend is almost always going to get in the way in terms of wanting to use the equipment, leaving precious little time to get this stuff up and running correctly. I just thought I'd avoid this by doing it while she was away, but forgot that her programs are still on and need to be recorded regardless....

Yeah, so why am I putting myself through all this pressure! Good question Nety.

Ok, I finally got the two cards working at the same time, and could switch between Freeview and Sky channels. But a couple of weird things happened.

1. It would not allow me to record a Freeview channel. Everytime I tried, it said that there was a recording/viewing conflict.
2. I'd get a similar conflict when trying to switch to Prime. I wonder if that was because I might have had both Prime (Sky feed) and C4 (Freeview feed) on channel 4.

I'm still trying to find out how I can have two feeds of the overlaping channels (eg. TV1 from Sky and Freeview). In the meantime I've had to configure back to my one tuner config with Sky only so I can record Dancing with the Stars (groan) for my Missus.

Have you got the guide working? I have run into a wall on that one. With the help of rustygonad I have got bladerunner working but when I go into media centre to setup the guide I keep getting error 14. I have read what I can find but a little stumped as to how to get past this.
