Yeah, I saw my former hairdresser pop up on Kiwi Living the other night.

I have to admit I'll watch the storage locker shows, although my sister insists they're all completely staged. And I do have a soft spot for Location, Location, Location. I'll chalk that one up as my guilty pleasure :o) Not all reality TV is awful. I've really enjoyed things like Top Gear, Time Team, The Long Way Down ... they're all British shows come to think of it.

. Enough said.

I like those shows, but they aren't really the same as the NZ type shows that are produced, such as a house makeover shows, which are really just big advertorials. Location doesn't have product placement, nor are they selling anything to you.

This is true, probably because they started some time ago, before such TV became one gigantic commercial. Location's in its 20th season.

Looks like they are also making a NZ version of that awful housewives reality show. Wonder if it is getting NZ on air funding. With streaming media, I wouldn't mind some funding going to some of these youtube channels. Not too sure if there are any too many good NZ ones though.

I'm seeing a lot of format tv paid for by overseas crowds now. One of them ended last night (I forget which) with Warner Brothers logos all over it. And Check out who makes that retarded funny clips show 3 currently run on Friday nights Fail Army.

As for NZoA.. Its public information

Jono and Ben, too! I guess that's how much has been spent over the entire run of the show? I love 7 Days - it's a must-watch in my house. I don't count that as reality TV though, I'd classify it as general entertainment.

Hopefully this will happen, and *all* the reality shows get moved to it. Including the real estate sales ones.

I vote for that, pop them all in there so some can get peace, others can binge

I'm not a fan of the reality format where people compete against each other for something, be it by singing, dancing, cooking, baking, renovating, dating, whatever... I've watched a few eipsodes of things here and there but basically avoid them altogether now. I do like some of the shows where we see real people doing their jobs, often under difficult circumstances, and the occasional nut job they run into - I'm thinking Border Patrol, Dog Squad, some of the local and Australian cop shows... I'm not sure if they count as reality TV. If so I guess I'm on the fence, but right now I'm thinking FOUR will probably be another channel on Sky to skip over completely.

Id classify what you wrote as reality shows and tabloid reality shows. Ones real, one is real-tainment

First launched in 1997 as TV 4.  Then it changed to C4 - a music format show.  Then back to Four in 2010 or 2011.

Doesn't bother me. I do have a lot on reality on the telly. But I find it interesting they didn't keep four and create a new channel . Surely there's plenty of room on the media works transponder. Whether I'll watch or not is another question. Dealing with the ads is a punish.

Also if you're really into reality you'll try and get access to hayu.

They have this all wrong.. Its Tv4+1 they should be turning into Bravo.

As for reality tv, I quite enjoy survivor but TV3 has the ridiculous habit of  storing up all the new season episodes and playing them out in a 5pm slot over the course of a couple of weeks. So I end up watching them on KODI

Unfortunately there is no space on either Freeview Muxes on DTH and DTT, with +1 and Edge TV being on a SKY owned Freq, a reshuffle in a few weeks will explore more options and I am waiting on SKY to get the full report sent through.

So I get the following - I think it's current

TVNZ 6 channel with 2 HD.

Mediaworks 5 channels with 1 HD

Kordia 7 channels with 0 HD.

I would have thought that mediaworks mux would have enough room for another to make it 6 with 1 HD

Seems like you're referring to Freeview HD (DVB-T), but your numbers are slightly off.

TVNZ: 2 HD + 3 SD [total ~25.5 Mb/s]

MediaWorks: 1 HD + 4 SD [total ~22.1 Mb/s]

Kordia 1: 10 SD (includes 1 currently blank/test slot) + 2 radio [total ~24.9 Mb/s]

Kordia 2/World TV: 7 SD [total ~16.2 Mb/s]

*Note that TV3 currently has consistently higher video bit-rate than at least one if not both of TV ONE and TV 2. Depending on encoders, that may mean TV3 picture quality is slightly better.

If you assume that all muxes are capable of roughly 25 Mb/s, it could be argued that MW may have space for one additional SD channel (or alternative such as converting FOUR to HD, if they trim the quality for their other channels). However this does not consider Freeview Satellite.

For Freeview Satellite:

TVNZ: 9 SD

MediaWorks: 12 SD + 5 radio

*Note that FOUR +1, PRIME and The Edge TV are currently carried on various Sky transponders.

As Josh has said, MediaWorks' satellite transponder is at capacity. So, they wouldn't be able to launch another channel with the current arrangement.

Possibly...I just took the old scan values, not performed a new one in case it hosed my Nextpvr install.

But given a DVB-T only channel is not a precident (wasn't CUE, or sommet sports - DVB-T only and not DVB-S) I'd have still argued there was room.

I'm not overly a fan of FOUR, can't say I've watched it much at all - so it's no real skin off my nose, but didn't it have Simpsons and futurama and familly guy type stuff?  There's been no word as to where that is moving to....and I'd imagine those shows have a fair number of fans - more, most likely than the real housewives franchises (all 8-9ish put together).

Mediaworks lost the rights to The Simpsons so its playing old series and repeats.  TV2 has The Simpsons - and in HD.  If Mediaworks does migrate those frnachises to TV3 then it'll be a quality boost for the viewers.  Mediaworks have said their committed to finding a new home for the Four content that doesnt fit in the new format.  Of course that may mean it goes to 3NOW in a similar vein to TVNZ Kidzone moving off broadcast to online.
