I do not believe you have to pay them to use the Freeview trademarking - rather you have to follow their rules for how your devices work, including not being able to quickly skip over the ads.  The Freeview members get their money from forcing you to watch the ads.  Fortunately, there are non Freeview branded devices and software out there that do allow you to skip the ads easily, such as MythTV, NextPVR and many others.

How would you be able to skip over ads on a live stream which includes adverts?

Assuming a stream of content had (say) 10 minutes of ads per hour, you would end up 10 minutes into the future after watching for an hour! Nice...

You record the stream, and start watching it 10 minutes late.  By the time you reach the end, you will be seconds behind real-time and have missed all the ads.  This is a fairly common thing to do with MythTV, which is what I use.

My Panasonic OLED tv has just received the new Freeview Streaming app, been having a quick play with it, and noticed some of the channels are slow jumping to HD resolution, also noticed no 5.1 on Duke.

Seems to be missing a few channels like HGTV and Parliament, but otherwise looks good enough for those living in homes with no TV antenna or Satellite dish.

…. and on Vodafone TV - while it lasts. Except for Three where the restart button comes and goes - and is currently AWOL again.

My Panasonic OLED has it too but there is no way this is HD. Picture quality is even worse than my DISH TV Superbox A2. Incidently this device also rejects the Freeview Streaming app. According to them it only works on DISH TV devices - duh

Back to Google TV for me. Is it any wonder we barely watch any live TV anymore.

Tried it last night on my Panasonic OLED. Some channels are ok, but TV One looked dreadful. JuiceTV on CH 200 had one of the best pictures.

After the channel lineup change the Freeview Streaming TV app has broken on AndroidTV. It crashes when the EPG button is pressed and incorrect information is displayed when the Prime +1 channel is being viewed - it says "Juice TV".

For me at least the Freeview Streaming app for Panasonic My Home Screen does not have working remote control bindings for the channel buttons, "Guide" brings up the Freeview UHF EPG, and channel down/up ( -Ch+ ) does nothing. If it's working correctly on your My Home Screen TV do say...

These faults really ought to be fixed if people are to use the app.

And Samsung owners wanting three wait :p

None of the online streams are beyond true 720? (Especially +1s). And most lack 5.1

The stream data from Kodi Etc usually can pull it but not aware of any of them looking great or how full 1920 should. Someone I know solely watches via the native apps on appletv and its horrid compared to switching to the native UHF. Nevermind doesn't understand most stuff is doing all ch stereo through the HT.

Yes, did another search last night on our Samsung and no App for Three yet, will there be one? Software up to date as well. Wonder who arranges this and how to awaken Samsung to the fact.

I sent off an online question in the FreeView Streaming site plus posted a question in the Freeview user forums.

When will there be a Freeview Streaming TV app for Apple TV?

If you provided this app then I could get rid of my UHF aerial on my roof and have clean lines. Aerials, analogue and digital, have always been an unsightly grotesque to the roof lines of buildings all over the planet. Satellite dishes are only marginally better.

Both have only ever been a necessary evil. The government announced in December 2022 that they are firmly on track for ensuring 99.8 percent of the population has access to improved broadband by the end of 2023.

So please release a Freeview Streaming TV app for all those external dongles and boxes like Apple TV!

Thanks and Cheers

We shall see.

Watch what you wish for. Seriously, any 4k like tv is crippled using our fta stream services currently.

Broadcast upscale.. no worries. Can see sweat pores.

Its probably worth clearing the cache on that app and see if that fixes it. Might force it to reload the 'new' data??

Had a reply back from Freeview concerning the lack of a Freeview Streaming TV app for Apple TV.

Hi ****,

Thanks for getting back in touch.

I'm affraid at this stage we don't have any information on plans to have the Live TV Streaming app available on Apple TV.

Should this change or become available in the future it will be announced on our website and other platforms such as Facebook.

We will however pass on feedback regarding this.

Thanks,

Team Freeview

Bit poor really in this day and age. Reading the Freeview site, it appears they only have the skills to code this App for Android devices only.

Also our household does not have social media app's such as FB.

Oh well we shall see.

I just use the ThreeNow app for live TV. Is there anything else on Freeview that's worth watching?
