I have the old model BW850 it found Ch 705 auto, you may have to read the manual or go to panasonic.co.nz > support > firmware upgrades > blu-ray firmware upgrades > DVD > Aug 18 2010 DMR-XW380 .

Thanks, according to this (http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dvd/download/xw480/nwdl.html) my player was automatically updated on the 18th (corresponds to the degredation of function), does anyone know how to roll this update back? If I restore "System Defauts" will it return my firmware to shipping condition or just change the configuraiton?

I'd like to know why the NZ BW880 gets a piddly 500GB HDD while the Japanese market modle has a whopping 1TB HDD.

it transpires that there is no problem with my recorder, what I was unaware of was that all channels other than TV3 have the audio in HE AAC. Previously I must have only watched content form TV3 and by co-incidence watch the first HE AAC encoded content after the update.

Note: XBMC has DLNA/UPnP and the HE AAC support. I've not been able to find the HE AAC codec to allow Win 7 to work with the DMR XW380. PS3 also does not support HE AAC but does allow content download (I've found no other client that does).

Hello RingoTB, i also have same model (BW850) and where is the add skip forward button you are referring to ? so far am i've beeing using forward button to skip ads , is it samething you are referring to ? Thanks.

I use the Manual Skip button to jump forward 1 minute for each press. The length of the add breaks on TV1 vary while the breaks on TV2 and TV3 are pretty much 4 minutes. Generally 4 quick presses and the adds are gone.

damn, i missed that completely! thanks for sharing. thats much quicker than using fast forward buttons.

damn, i missed that completely! thanks for sharing. thats much quicker than using fast forward buttons.

No worries. Another one that you may not know then is the Time Slip Button. Then you use the up and down arrows to choose a specified time, either + or - and it will skip forward or backward by that amount. Not as quick and easy to use as the Manual Skip though.

Unboxed it today, at last. Here are some pictures:

Initial scan was really fast, automatic clock setting. The first time I invoked the guide it took a bit to show up, but nothing bad after that.

I will put some series to record (most likely the news, Shortland Street and The Simpsons seeing those happen every day).

Am I seeing S-video-in in that photo?

I guess the questions that come to the fore for advanced users are whether the units will work trouble-free with a fresh, blank larger replacement HDD, and whether it is possible to access the recordings by removing the drive and placing it in a PC.

The BW880 looks like a much better proposition but retailers are trying in lockstep for some huge margins on it.

turn on the in-built DLNA server, that's the easiest way to get content from the HDD

just realised that only 10/100 only so plugging in the Gigabit is a bit of a waste. wonder if PS3 is Gigabit?
