By "time slip" I mean the feature where it's busy recording the current channel in the background.
It's under User Settings - User Preference - Auto Time Shift Mode (and off by default) Spent about 30 seconds playing with it and switching it on starts recording the current channel. Not sure how long it holds.
Thanks Jaxson. I have a single cable to my receiver. So if I understand correctly the receiver controls the polarity it is receiving based on the voltage it generates on the cable. So it's not a "per tuner" thing - if it's set to 18v then I get horizontal only, with 13v it's vertical only - and with the 2nd LNB fed from the output of the 1st, both LNBs can only be the same polarity at any one time.
Sorry to all if this is a bit off topic. Hopefully this should be my last "polarity" question :-)
This is getting as fascinating as it is confusing! The 7090 says it's 'dual tuner' and has two aerial connections (which the manual tells you to loop together). But I've got 2 cables, and 2 dishes. Wouldn't connecting a dish to each see each them controlled by it's own tuner. Where one could be on 18v and other 13v ?
I assumed the instruction to loop the inputs was for (most?) cases of a single dish feeding both tuners?
Thanks Chuckman, ours has that in Setup. Couldn't figure out it's purpose... so it's to record the current channel automatically, always? Wonder who'd want to do that....
Starts to record as soon as you change to a channel. Then at any time you can pause live tv and leave the room etc, or rewind even if you miss something etc. Just thrashes the hard drive always is all.
We've had the unit on appro for about 2 weeks now and have decided to buy it. However there are a number of issues we can't resolve, maybe some of you have ?
PLAY shows on the front panel when nothing is playing, and attempts to change channel do nothing.
The EPG button does nothing, or is very slow to diaplay "Loading..." and sometimes just says "Please Wait' (and you wait for ever). Is this a freeview problem ?
Playback switches to a completely black screen, audio continues as normal. Stop and try again, may repeat again or may come right. (Eventually always coming right).
While playing back (perhaps chasing only, not 100% sure), a loud squeal is heard, follwed by brief pixelation. Stop and rewind and it isn't there again.
Would this mean that it would be possible to simultaneously watch v polarity channels while recording an h polarity channel without removing the loop through cable between the 2 tuners?
gwf: Sounds to me like you have a defective machine. Mine has never demonstrated the behaviour you describe.
Hard to know? Maybe I'll ring Dish TV and see what they think... tonight it would not access the EPG until it was turned off and back on. Then my wife got a message up about 'smooth scrolling' and nothing in the manual to say what that is, or does etc etc.
On the plus side, watched about 90 mins and no sqeals as previuosly described.
The dual LNB, hope you get an authorative answer, but wouldn't it effectively be the same as having 2 dishes and 2 LNBs?

Yeah pretty much. I get the feeling the whole thing is broadcast on a loop, might be way off here, but often you have to press that quite a few times to get it to start, like it's waiting for it to come around again. EIT data does the same thing, but seems to be able to start populating the EPG in bits and pieces starting from any point.
Then once it's started you get the loading whilst it, well you know, loads. This can take a while and both effects happen on satellite and terrestrial freeview versions.
