Hi, Anyone got one of these? Have one straight out of the box but can only get 'Tuning Failed' and 'Database Empty' .  The book doesn't go onto quite enough details to sort it out.  From setup, on Optus D1, I can see a Signal strength of 88% and quality 100%, but no way to get any further.

Cheers - Kirk

Worth a shot ... see if the lnb settings is set to 11300 and scan or try 10750 and scan

These are auto LNB if your getting that message usually means no signal getting to the box,but if your getting good quality there must be something there , try factory reset and be patient while it scans , it looks like nothing is happening but it is working in the background

Thanks guys.  Making some headway. They have 'carrier' setting which I've never seen before. Plus 2 dish inputs and I had a separate dish on each.  Now just using one and looping as suggested in the book.

No picture yet but new signal strengths showing. Still mucking about...

Got there, a fluke more than good management! ! LNB 11300 was the big one, you keep selecting until kuband 11300 shows up, rather than editing it directly. Thanks for the help. All are now tuned in but seems no way to re-order
them. Looks like you can assign to groups but that's about it. Channel 1 is 1 but Ch9 Aussie is 1007. Can't seem to display a complete list, nor cursor through them, apart from next and previous.

This is a freeview approved unit, it has auto lnb and doesnt need to be entered manually, it also follows the freeview channel mapping and gem , go , nine, and the SBSs are not freeview channels so have been allocated channel numbers above 1000

I don't quite follow you - it may be 'Freeview approved' but they didn't make it and that shouldn't inhibit it's operation, surely? Certainly nothing was automatic... first msg after power on was some kind of failure!  Just forget exactly.

Usually you can rearrange the order to suit, e.g. swap Prime and moari.  Set Aussie 9 as 9 etc. and you shouldn't  have to enter 4 digits to select a (any) channel.

Freeview approval normally means that they lock the channel numbers down. This is so that the MHEG EPG can work correctly (ie match channel numbers/order from EPG).

It's just one of those things you'll have to live with I guess. I bought a non-approved box for this reason.

Ah, thanks for that = so 'Freeview Approved' is something to avoids, unless you're happy with a default channel sequence and unable to change anything. Blow that!!

I haven't bought this, just trying it out for the weekend. Lots of things to put you off it.  Don't think you can copy from HD to USB. The Rec button offers two times, 3 mins or 63 mins. Can't see how that's changed. Then it stuck a big black oblong blob on the screen that wouldn't go away until you changed channel and back...

The 7090 is more than ideal for average joe consumer. if your after something more flexible why dont you try the vu + duo

if you were getting a database empty message from power on , then this unit has been installed before on a dish with a diferent LO ,, going into the menu and setting to factory default would have fixed this

Sigh.... I suppose, but why can't they make them properly in the first place. Who would want - when you hit the record button, to record 2 or 3 minutes only.  It's just plain stupid - worked out that the 'current program' only is recorded... so you can't start something early.  You can move it to the next programme but in reality, you rush in to record something and should be able to hit record without even needing to turn on the TV or sychronise the time.

Have you tried recording from the epg or from the timer, this is a very nice unit and i think your missing a lot of its functionality, as for pushing in 4 numbers for the channel , ive had 4 different PVRs in 6 years and have never punched in 4 numbers, try hitting the ok button for a channel list

I'd recommend Freeview approved units to most people. So much easier to get them going again if they accidentally delete all the transponder data, and although the EPG is slow, at least it's the same on all boxes.

For the enthusiast though, we'd all rather have more control!

Will do, so far haven't been able to bring up a channel list.  Have you got one of these? Can you re-order the channels.  Someone said they're locked to suit Freeview (approval ?) but the TV here has 'Freeview Built in' and it permits reordering.
Haven't tried the timer yet, and probably won't record from the EPG. What happens if something is running late or early?
It's got potential to be a really nice unit, but too many bad things found so far.  Especially the 'black blob' that comes on screen when you hit record?  Loks like a glitch of some kind. And although I may be wrong and hope I am, there's no mention in the manual of copying from HDD to USB, in either direction.
