I got a card in the mail today. One side says "Do you know that TV is going digital?" even though, as has been mentioned multiple times, it's been available digitally for years now.

The other side states that I have free or pay TV options and that in both cases I need a satellite dish plus a Freeview or Sky satellite receiver. There's no mention of HD anywhere on the card!

If anyone else has "mis-information" stories from Freeview, Installers, retailers etc - Please post them here, I will collect as much info as I can to present to Freeview - more info = better chance of getting changes done.

Or put those questions to freeview via the questions thread here, if this hasn't been submitted yet?

Be prepared for the standard freeview doesn't do anything response though we got last time, where they offloaded everything to the individual broadcast companies.

The ads aren't intended for people who hang around on the freeview board on geekzone, but more Mum & Dad who have no idea that TV has been digital for years.

Now all TV will be digital, no more analogue so they need to know about changes required.

My point is that it should read something like "modern TV is digital", not that it's going to be digital. By stating that it's going to be digital may confuse more people.

Imagine that you have a Freeview receiver (and you don't have a clue what technology it uses) and then you get a card saying that "TV is going digital soon". One logical conclusion is that you're currently not using digital.

One of the people at work was shocked when I said I was setting up Freeview over UHF. He was adamant that it'll stop working in 2013 because they're "turning off UHF". There is so much misinformation out there already that any new advertising really needs to be accurate.

Totally agree Behodar, you need to know that if you have freeview or SKY already then you're fine as you are 'digital' already.

If that's not made clear then you could think that you need to change again in a few years.

Forget you know anything about TVs, Freeview etc, and imagine your between 30~80 yrs old - now, go watch one of the TV adverts and tell us your not confused.

IMO that annoying letterbox area on analog is perfect to put a ticker in advising that they are watching analog and only have 12 months or whatever to sort their reception of digital out. Leave the ad's off digital.

While they are at it, put some pages on teletext about the changeover.

And as analog lacks parental controls and kids might be watching, replace all AO shows on analog with a constant loop about how freeview has ratings in it to protect kids from the good shows ;)

I think the ads are all about awareness.
At least then people can ask for advice from friends / family.

The ad which i mostly red in colour seems to be OK, says you will need a freeview box & either UHF aerial or sat dish.

That's the problem - people having to ask around for info = they get the wrong info.

The adverts should be used to inform.

There is no need to SELL Freeview to the population, its replacing the current TV system, you need to have it (unless you have Sky)

Instead of trying to sell people on the idea - just present the facts, clearly.

in comparison, here are two Australian ads, much simpler in my opinion

guess that' means they'd have to simplify their website though. Maybe a simple questionaire on there? A wizard giving advice based on the scenario. Where do you live? Do you have Sky etc etc
