mattwnz:  it doesn't appear on my Tivo, but perhpas that detects I am in Wellington.

Is anyone getting this message on a TIVO though?
I suspect the message is via the approved freeview boxes only?

So we've passed the 13th of March now, any reports?   Especially if anyone's reception has improved by the frequency change...

Wharite - seems about the same to me. The top mux seemed to have lower strength/quality on the morning of the 13th, but that has picked up to the level of the other frequencies now.

Hmm.. So are either of you in fringe areas for reception, or could you get UHF Freeview with no problem before the change?

I wonder if it's made much difference to anyone on the fringes of the signal..

I'd prefer not to say where I live exactly, but I don't think I'm in a fringe area. I do have to amplify the signal because I have [what I think is] a Gizmo aerial, and it is split 8 ways, then 4 ways again, before it gets to my tuners, which then split the signal in 2 again on the PCB to feed 2 tuners from each aerial input. I was a bit concerned that my setup might be compromised due to the frequency change, but so far so good.

So far there is some minor evidence of individual installations suffering from reduced aerial gain at the lower frequencies but there has been no
RF power reduction at Wharite as far as I´m aware.

It's not only on approved boxes, because I am getting it on my cheap chinese USB tv stick sent from china, and that definitely isn't an approved device.

Which software or box though? The message will be generated based on flags or something embedded in the stream, and the question will be whether the software or box firmware interprets the flag or not.

I can see Wharite out my window.
I have TV with integrated tuner and HDD recorder with twin tuners.
Aerial is known as a "Gizmo"
Before retune I could receive all channels perfectly.
After retune I cannot get Prime,Maori,Parliament,Chinese,Trackside,radio x 3.
I have run auto retune a number of times on both devices.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

RF modulators eg VHS machines, sky boxes are the most likely cause of loss of reception. Remove anything else you might have connected and try a retune with your set up in the first instance.

Edit for poor spelling!

As I understand it Gizmo aerials are designed for the specific frequencies on which channels were broadcast, and you had to buy the correct one for a particular area of the country. I would guess that the Kordia mux is now on a frequency for which the Gizmo is not 'tuned'.

I would buy a cheap (medium gain) UHF aerial and discard the Gizmo. should only cost you about $50.

knoydart - you got me thinking!

I have a Belkin surge board that the TV stuff is connected to, including the aerial.
I have bypassed the aerial from the surge board and all channels are now received as before.
I have no idea why that is.

Thanks for the prompting.

Ditch the Gizmo, they are popular with Electricians but are now redundant given all TV is available via UHF only, no no need for a combo aerial any more.

You are receiving a borderline signal if routing through a surge protector box is enough to prevent some channels displaying properly.  Check your cabling and make sure it's RG6 and running as direct as possible, with good terminations on the ends etc.
