I have recently bought the ET (from Cordlessman in Waitakere) and it seems to work fine.

However in operation I notice that the volume has to be set a lot higher (probably twice as high plus) as when I am watching 'regular' television, say Prime.

Could anyone tell me if this is normal? I have the box connected to the TV through an HDMI cable.

Have you got the volume on the ET set up to maximum. I have found that the default level on the ET is too low cpmared with my other devices. If I set the volume on ET to maximum then its about the same level as the other devices. You may notice a difference in sound levels with the Freeview channels (especially TV3 - being a bit lower)

11 days to be precise.
no one can claim pvr capability until the epg upgrade which is around the 4th dec and the launch of the myfreview box,


EPG was upgraded weeks ago but you wont see it on a standard box only a PVR

NEW FIRMWARE to fix the clock in standby mode is now available on the www.freeviewnz.com and the www.satlinknz.com site.  Its dated 21 Noc 2008.    This firmware has been fully tested over the last few days. This update includes all the previous fixes for the ET box.




Only Butterflys are more beautiful.

So, dare I ask.  Does it fix the audio dropouts on optical out?  All mention of this problem seems to have vanished from Peter's site.

That's good to hear, thanks for the prompt response.  I'll have to do some tests to see if the problem recurs.  In the past it was occurring on the optical out and NOT the RCA so I have trouble believing it is the signal.

I have to congratulate you and your captive chinese workers on the speed of the bug fixes to date.

You've always said that, yet there's always been people that do have the problem.  I know you say it could be a signal thing, but why does the RCA audio work OK?

However the audio drop out on the Coax output is still there.I upgraded 1 box, I plugged in HDMI and sent that picture/sound to one display.I then plugged in a coax and put that output through a Home Theater with Coax input.
Sound is going to both similtaniously.
Sound is perfect via HDMI, randomly drops out via the coax.Tested on C4 (seems to be the worst).
I will do some more tests tomorrow, including Optical and top/bottom AV's.

Exactly, how can that be the signal?

Thank you Garglo for letting us know of the firmware update.

I don't understand why the firmware version numbers are not incremented sequentially, as is typical practice.

The TV3 depixilation I was noticing has curiously and thank fully apparently vanished again after a few hours running.

Yes, I too look forward to resolution of the multiple audio issues.

Due to some folk wonderring about occasional audio dropouts on optical..we have just ran some tests...

Using our indoor panel antenna...with line of sight to skytower and waiatarua...we had a dropout after about 40mins....5-7secs.
was with unit tuned to waiatarua...we live within 1kmm of Tx point....heaps of interference, R.T repeaters all off waiatarua,etc.
We then set unit to skytower....better signal...but same problem..dropout sometimes...

Next Test...using a 12 element UHF antenna lookin at skytower(Vert pol)....PERFECT...NO DROPOUT....
All tests done on C4

UHF 12 element has far better signal to noise, and is obviously more directional, which helps keeping interference out of antenna feed.

Conclusion...anyone with this prob, has a poor antenna...interference getting in from somewhere...
NOTE; you cannot go by the meters in box, they are perely only indicative...
