Myst:

Thanks - I thought that may have been be the case

I feel the easier option might be for me to replace the TV's with ones that support HDMI-CEC - although finding 24inch hdmi - cec enabled TV's has proven tricky.
Harmony remotes are OK - but adds another layer of fluffing about - and I would like to keep the remote with the google assistant buttons etc

I've always found HDMI-CEC either works great, not at all or inbetween in that weird things happen such as HDMI source gets changed with another device fights for control. If I remember right, with the SmartVU it did the opposite ie turn TV on it turns SmartVU off, so I ended up disabling it.

Mother Neb's sat decoder died recently and we got her one of these using the extremely sophisticated logic that this was all that was available from places open on a weekend out where Mother Neb lives. After the usual updating and whatnot it's dropping out of displaying the Freeview satellite stream after anything from a few seconds to a few minutes, going back to a generic Android TV UI (not the main menu described in the manual, which doesn't seem to exist). Hit the Freeview button and you get a bit more satellite stream until it exits back to the Android TV UI.

Is this a known problem with these things, or was it due to rain fade on the satellite signal from the heavy rain earlier today which causes it to drop out to the Android TV UI?

I would say you might have an external dish alignment issue.

The software side may also be a problem if you are in between main centres out in the whop whops
Dont thing ive upgraded mine out of box and really no issues

Im not sure at hand what utilities are installed to show signal strength - use the HTV app installed

I used to get rain fade either at uplink feed to satellite or at my location in bad weather with SKY and other Freeview boxes - always at time when you really wanted to see something

I had quite a few issues with my A7070 sat freeview. Updating software made no difference! Changing channels would cause a small delay and then audio out of sync issues to the point it was unwatchable!

At some point I would also get the freeview app crashing out to the Android TV main screen. Killing and restarting app or reboot would partly fix.

In the end, I reset device to factory settings, applied updates and freeview app is now much more stable.

You could also try the HDTV system app which you would find in settings > apps > show system apps... Mentioned in this forum. The freeview app uses this app in the background. This app will also allow you to record if you plug in a USB stick.

This might allow you to rule out dish issues or app issues.

There also has been a very recent android system security update, which brings it up to April 21 Android security patch. Which is better than 2019. Not sure if this update also fixes other bugs.

Seems unlikely given that it's been running for years like that with two different decoders, the only thing that's changed is the switch to the SmartVu+. I'll check back in a few days to see if more data is available, in particular with less possible rain fade.

That seems to be what this one is doing. Thanks for the info, if it keeps playing up I'll give that a go.

I've got an issue with mine not detecting the signal from the dish at the moment, trying to get a cheap box to test the dish to see if the problem is with the box or the dish.

Considering getting an aerial put up instead then I can use it to mount an AP on the top as well for other uses.

Turn off WiFi, disconnect Ethernet cable to be sure device is not IP streaming TV content

Use HDTV app, press menu button select turning S2 (satellite) check your signal strength , quality and settings based on your initial setup location at configure

(Optus D1 is was 137? in list but i deleted about 130 from the database)

Just upgraded to one of these from the A2, updated the software and rebooted. Often on Freeview via satellite there is sound but no picture. I can use the remote to change channels and see the channels change on screen but the picture is just black. If I change to another app and then back again the picture come back.

Anyone else having this issue? Also is there a way to rewind/pause via the Freeview streaming app (like Vodafone TV does?) as other than not needing an aerial is there anything the streaming version does? Also anyone know what the resolutions of UHF, satellite and streaming are?
