It will be very interesting to see what consolidation occurs across the existing Mediaworks channels and the Choice TV / HGTV content.
I'm also hoping we see a boost in their streaming platforms as the current streams for TV3 and Bravo are shocking.
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
More people would watch Choice and HGTV if TV3 / Bravo told people they exist.
I dont watch them due to the fact they are a jerky juddering mess as they don't know how to convert video to 25 fps from USA based content

What do you watch it on ?? I never have any problem on a normal TV via OTA or Sky.

That's because you haven't looked hard enough.

With Normal FTA on my Panny plasma with enhancements off (not new enough to have that many) I can vouch for this too. Not all programs. Often the rubbish 4yr old already DIY style shows.
Panning (normally vertical) just can't keep up, you get interlacing line splitting or frame skips.
Doing it right now on HGTV pool kings.

It's hardly enjoyable when your eyeballs are straining as they jerk to try and give the brain a stable image as it jumps along..
I watch Choice sometimes and I don't get that at all. I usually stream the @Apsattv playlist on a Shield feeding a Sony Bravia (pre-android) but I have also watched it on satellite. If you have to look hard to notice a problem, maybe it isn't such a problem after all.

Ya'll not understanding. You don't need to 'look that hard' - It's in your face. Based on content.
SOME sourced content. On SOME of the aforementioned channels. Is not converted properly. And simply drops frames or gets compressed to compensate. Either vertical, horizontal. Or sometimes both. Even the audio has been known to go out of sync.
Get your streamed goodness, and restrict your internet BW right down (using a service that doesn't equally change the bitrate quality to compensate). And make it drop every 3rd or 4th frame. Look how hard you have to look to see it.. Oh wait - Just as much as your recent complaints about all the australian or overseas streamed content being jerky and unwatchable.
I'll film the next example. Although digital conversion to host the result will likely also change it slightly. But we aren't sitting there with glasses, binoculars or any such means. Or dreaming it up
I'm not the fussy in terms of video (hell i still feed rf out of the sky modulator in beside the pc here..and watch it in analogue SD!)
But the mess on some shows on choice they should be seriously embarassed by it. You can see all the fault is in the conversion, and when it cuts to the adverts they are perfect. However when the adverts contain material from certain badly converted shows it shows the exact same juddery flickery mess
They actually said they will try and improve and that I should enable all motion features on my tv! that was their fix for their crap video.
Funny their website ondemand streams has the exact same issue on the content I was complaining about, a juddery flickering frame dropping mess on some shows
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just that I haven't encountered it on Choice (I never watch the other one mentioned). Regarding the rest, my issue is not about overseas content being jerky and unwatchable, but about endless, incessant, unwatchable buffering. Even where I can compensate by switching to low bitrate streams, I sometimes cannot even get a consistent blocky image. That is what I am complaining about and it is a whole different matter. I rarely have problems with NZ streams, and I don't have problems with Choice. That is all I am saying.

Then perhaps if watching a limited amount on one of a couple of channels a couple of different people mentioned, a comment washing off experiences so flippantly could have been left off.

Project on Friday made a lol out of the announcement.
After one of the breaks announcing that the public 'may have heard' of the news, re-assuring everyone nothing 'should' change. Other than they were all wearing Discovery hats, shirts and cups etc :)
