Where do I start.
I'm very disappointed in free-view, with 6&7 it was good now 6 is gone and they changed 7's format it sucks too!
Do they really believe anyone would watch a shopping channel, they be better to just put on a weather channel.
I spend 60% of my time watching Aussie channels, which are way better.

TVNZ has shafted free-view viewers and I will never use a pay service from either of them.
If or when Aussie channels stop being available I will look at other satellite options or just get it off the internet Period, which is a great way watch discovery, history, Nat Geo, mini series.
Not happy with SKY and TVNZ.

I agree, I would much rather have TVNZ7 than a Shopping channel.

Cant they get some paid advertising onto TVNZ7? Enough reasonable content and regular news to keep people tuning from other channels, but perhaps more real world programming (but NOT reality!) and less rehashed environmental activism would attract viewers and advertisers.

tvnz could easily fund tv7, but they would prefer to put the money that would fund it into their partnership with skytv. There is no reason a company whose revenue from advertising last year was well over $300 million, and once you included the tax payer funding over $400 million can not pay to run tv7. As for two new channels, I just wish they would pull their fingers out and bring all channels to the places that got the new HD service before the world cup, all we have is 11 channels and freeview have no idea when we will get the rest. Perhaps when they find out how to get someone to run them, seems all the areas JDA are responsible keep having major problems and JDA don't give a flying finger nail about them. Timaru went for a week with distorted picture, free view saying nothing is wrong with it, before they admitted there was. Then a week of sound dropping out. all in the past few weeks. Give me freeview that works with all current channels before adding anything new.

They probably get a cut! Whatever the case they obviously make more money running this type of format. TV in this country is pretty brain dead anyway, no real world news coverage, no investigative journalism, no satire - nothing, nothing, nothing.

Freeview doesn't need another International channel, it will put me off the whole brand of Freeview, Who wants to watch a Chinese run channel in Chinese or English, Not me.

It would be great to have Juice TV on the platform, its current status now is that Juice TV is now a Pay-TV channel only on SKY TV 62, They cancelled their analogue broadcasts in October, perhaps for the switch to Digital,

I dont know why it was made only on Sky as they would of coped broadcasting on Freeview HD in Auckland

I wonder if now isn't a good time to sell tvnz. Then they could turn radio NZ into a public broadcaster for both radio and TV, and possibly use Avalon studios, perhaps even join it with Maori. They could broadcast many of those programs that are currently on the heartland channel, as they were all paid for by the taxpayer anyway, so shouldnt' only be on a pay tv platform.
I don't think TVNZ represents NZers anymore (aprt from TVNZ7), and is now really no different to TV3/4. The content is just so dumbed down. Infact I think TV3/4 is more of a NZ channel than TVNZ, even though it is overseas owned.

Privatising TVNZ so it becomes fully part of Sky or owned directly by News Corp won't improve the situation. It would become more dumbed down, represent New Zealand less, and send dividends overseas. TVNZ owns a huge archive of NZ news and content that shouldn't be removed from public ownership.

TVNZ own the crucial number 1 and 2 spots on everybodies' remotes, and 6 and 7 on Freeview. Anything set up by RNZ at no. 97 or 23 would be too out of sight and out of mind to get regular mainstream viewers, especially if TV guides like the Herald's refuse to list their programming like with 6 and 7. If it didn't start out as an underfunded shoe-string operating like PBS it would soon become one.

The main negative changes at TVNZ have not been so much because of the lack of government funding but because they're funding the government with onerous dividend payments. Removing or greatly reducing the requirement of TVNZ to return a profit to the government would be enough to make it a much better operation. Fixing TVNZ is the easiest and most effective way of fixing the terminal decline of NZ television.
