Anyone in the know and want to drop some hints?
Apparently they will be added after January.

Better be something decent like Sci Fi channel, movies or discovery.

Othewise they will be joining the blocked list like TAB & the Maori Channel.

Amen for the blocked list. Just less channels I have to skip when surfing :)

Yor forgetting this is free to air, Sky pay allot of coin for channels like discovery , so youll never see that on Freeview

And any new channel thats going to be broadcast on Freeview will be full of advertising, as thats what keeps it free

I had heard on the radio that they were going to turn tvnz 7 into a 24 hour shopping channel. That would have public broadcasters turning in their graves.

The word 'good' doesn't inspire me. SOmeone marketing something wouldn't normlly say it's 'good', they would say it is fantastic, or great. The problem with several of the cheaper channels, is that the quality of the broadcast is so poor. Not sure if it is SD, or even lower than that. Stratos isn't good quality. Prime and maori isn't better, but still in SD not HD.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I had a notification pop up last night on my PS3 PlayTV saying that a new channel called 'Channel North' was available.

I would think they are most likely local startups with weak content or very specialized and catering only to a limited demographic or ethnicity?

Guess one might be the rumoured Radio NZ channel to replace TVNZ 7?

It would nice if a few international channels like SBS or BBC World could be enticed to join; but I know this is not likely to happen as I know there is no benefit to them in such a small market place.

I was watching a really old (1950's I think) black and white movie on Stratos (I think) the other night and I thought what Freeview could do with is a dedicated classic movie channel. Should be dirt cheap to get the material, the sort of stuff that the Warehouse has on DVD for $1.99 a disc...

Channel North is our local Whangarei station and has only been available on analogue UHF until now! '
I doubt that would be one of the 'good' channels coming as it is probably only going to be broadcast on digital UHF in Whangarei but I could be wrong.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

An article in the Northern Advocate said something about 2013 for Channel North... so is it already on Freeview?  Maybe just in Northland at the moment?  Although Im like 20km out of Whangarei city, and can't get FreeviewHD lol
