I ASKED FOR REPORTS ON THE OPTICAL AUDIO ISSUE #WORKING OK# and with #DROPOUTS#
If you have this Optical ability then please cut and paste the list below with your answers.
Highlight text and (Copy) click on the icon to the right of the scissors above. (Paste icon ) to thr right of that again.
Dont get off the subject please if you really want this sorted. Optical audio is working on 3 receivers I know with no problems.

LETS HAVE REPORTS STATING:
TV Channel =
Programme being watched =
Receiver =
Amplifier =
either
Dropout Audio problem, identify the programme, a time point or a dialogue point where dropouts occurred and frequency
or
No Audio problem

My example of how to fill it out . . for those who dont still understand - this is my own report

TV Channel = C4
Programme being watched = "So Hot Right Now" 11am - 11.30am 27 November 08
Receiver = ET
Amplifier = Creative Audigy 2 on Computer
No Audio problem

I HAVE NOT HAD ONE REPLY SO FAR TO THIS REQUEST

Why should I worry, I wont,

I'll just go on holiday and it wont get fixed.

Since you asked so nice.
TV Channel = 4
Programme being watched = ET HD (Entertainment tonight, not in HD but thats the title), 11:40am-12:00am (ie this morning)
Receiver = ET
Amplifier = Sony STRK840POutput=OpticalQ=100%S=40%
Dropout Audio problems 11:43:26 2 second silent period.11:43:44 4 second silent period.11:47:13 part second dropout.
TV Channel 1Programme being watched = Midday news (Indian Terrorists!!! 12:00-12:30pm (ie lunch time)
Receiver = ET
Amplifier = Sony STRK840POut/In=OpticalQ=100%S=40%NO DROPOUTS.

TV Channel 2Programme being watched - some crap (12:30pm-1:00pm)Receiver = ET
Amplifier = Sony STRK840POut/In=OpticalQ=100%S=40%Thought there were dropouts, but then realised it was all the swearing being replaced with silence.
TV Channel Freeview Demo1:00-2:00pmReceiver = ET
Amplifier = Sony STRK840POut/In=OpticalQ=100%S=40%NO DROPOUTS.

Thanks Mark for your report EXCELLENT. I would like to add that its sometimes going to show dropouts on C4 more easily, because of the continious sound with music. Harder to detect on TV3 on voice where there is gaps between speech unless you have the sound at a decent level (this drives most spouses etc crazy) 1 REPORT lets have MORE

If it helps, I am happy to bring my ET and HT et al (not screen) to Auckland to demo the problem and perhaps allow some if x and y type testing. I have to come that way to catchup with a number of ex-work collegues at some time. Personally it doesn't effect me as I use HDMI and will soon do full HDMI from ET/HDi/BD to 4x4 Matrix Switch to HT to TV.

Again, we stipulate FACT...anyone who has purchased a ET box from Stereo world within last 3 mths.. MUST go back Tomorrow...ASAP,. and get a REFUND...
NO EXCUESES, No Geek excuses....Juast do it...=No Warranty...=SIMPLE fact of life, as you don't actually have legal right of purchase!!
As Stereo World did the ''dirty " on supplier and went into receivership without telling supplier, like many other of their suppliers....Goods actually remain "legal ownership " of supplier.... this is just a simple case of stupid N.Z law...
Take them back and ask for a refund ASAP, before they close receiveship sale......SIMPLE!!... Then supplier will then sell you one with a 40% discount...!!!

Does the ET pass the DD signal via HDMI? I didn't think it did when I tried it, but if it does then I won't have to worry about the optical.

RESPONSE TO MY SURVEY on the OPTICAL audio Dolby . . . a failure.

Bazza and Badmac I too, dont really use the Dolby Optical myself and rely on the HDMI fed audio.
Thanks for the 1 1/2 responses.
Who really cares about this when, the 5 people I know, the optical works OK on their system and the 2 or 3 on Geekzone that have very expensive amplifiers with dolby 5.1 and want to watch 1 programme a week off TV3 riddled with adverts only to be miffed about the 5.1 dropouts that possibly their amp is the cause. Off on a holiday to have a life. Over and Out.

TV Channel = C4
Programme being watched = Lunchtime crap music videos on Friday 28th November, 12pm - 1pm
Receiver = Pioneer VSX 816
Amplifier = as above.

Dropout Audio problem,
Small dropouts say 1 sec every 2 mins then twice within half an hour two big 10 sec + silences.
identify the programme, as above

DD 5.1 shows almost perfect for me, say 1 or 2 small dropouts in a whole hour long show
Only problems with standard two channel mpeg audio tracks.

I can repeat this with nearly any C4 show, haven't tried other channels, I just leave C4 on like a radio in another room to test.
I have live of sight to Wharite transmitter, only one in area so no cross feeds etc.
Latest clock firmware and 45% signal Strength, 100% Quality always.
Using digital coax output, but same happens on optical.

Not sure what can be done with this info Garglo but seems to be the same experience as Badmac, bazzer etc

hi Garglo,
rcvr = ET, tv4 , music videos, random audio breaks less than 1 sec, audio gear = Logitech z5500 thx .
tv one , complete loss of audio after viewing epg beyond today , restored audio by changing chanell,
tv 2 had been on all nite, went to view epg , tv3 next day page locked up unit on ch 2. hard reboot reqired,
if unit left on tv3 overnite will lock up when trying to change to content not in 1080i

question ? how can changing the screen resolution from 1080i to 720p on a 1080i source change the audio from aac to ac3. remember the channell wasnt changed just the screen resolution. ??????
