would love to add the magic HD box to the bedroom where we have a 50 inch plasma Pioneer TV with a freeview satellite box. In the lounge there is a 55 inch LCD Samsung with Samsung blue ray player and my sky HDi set up The wii runs through it too.

that would be an ecumenical matter

Our modest livingroom boasts a Samsung 32 inch flat screen. Or would that be a house screen, since we don't live in a flat? We have two DVD players; one's a new Samsung and one's an elderly generic brand that plays all the out of zone movies the Samsung rejects. There's a stunning Naim sound system whose input connectors are designed to prevent you connecting it to any external sound sources. Sitting behind the array of remote controls on the coffee table we're both armed with laptops.

Reception has always been poor here. We had an antenna on the roof that half-heartedly attempted to pull a signal from the ether and push bits of it down the ribbon cable to the livingroom. We could choose between snowy ghosting on TV1 or ghosting snow on TV3. Usually we didn't bother and found entertainment through our wireless router.

Recently we got an entry-level Freeview box because we still didn't have enough remote controls. The problem with the thing is ... it's far too small. It perches on top of the Samsung DVD player and you'd hardly know it was there. What's the point buying new toys if they're not glaringly obvious?

This is what I'm looking for to add to my system. So far using 32" LCD with zinwell hd decoder & Panasonic DVR without freeview decoder, so very trickey to set up.

Lounge 1:

42 inch Sony LCD, Freeview sattelite, DVD Recorder and Playon HD media player.

lounge 2:

32 inch Sanyo with build in Freeview HD and Playon mini HD media player.

I have a samsung lcd tv 46'' with HD ready but no freeview built-in.and a philips dvd playler to connect to the tv.mostly i watch movie through my laptop which connect to the Tv

I have a 40" Sony Bravia LCD TV, A Denon AVR3806 Amp driving a full Keff speaker setup. To get Freeview I drilled a 1" hole through the 6" thick brick wall between my lounge and office, where my PC is with a USB tuner plugged in. I use Media Center to watch TV and files from my hard drive via a HDMI cable that runs through the the brick wall. The TV is set up in Win7 to be my second monitor. I would love to win the MagicTV as It's a bit fiddley controlling things in the lounge using my wireless mouse.

I have a old widescreen phillips CRT TV only in standard def, currently connected into a good Sony 5.1 sound system. but the amp is packing up making a click sound that randomly turns speakers on and off....sigh...

Getting the HD Magic would be a good impetus to upgrade my whole system.

Im entering on behalf of my South African neighbours.

Whilst on my side of the fence I have an HTPC with freeviewHD and mysky HDI hooked up to an LED, they have only got a hand-me-down 21" CRT connected to an aerial on the roof which turns with the Wellington wind !

This would be a great start to get them on the way to having a decent set up....especially whilst the WC2010 is on in their homeland.

In my lounge, I have:

Panasonic 42" Plasma TV (HD ready)
Pioneer DVD Player
Sony HDD Recorder (not used much now due to having MySky)
Onkyo 5.1 Amplifier with Sony speakers
MySky HDI (no HD ticket)
UltraPlus satellite receiver
Sony PS2 (may upgrade to PS3 at some stage)

On the roof there are two satellite dishes:

# 1 - Fixed and connected to MySky
# 2 - Moveable connected to the UltraPlus receiver for FreeView Satellite, Channel 7 Australia, SBS and others

I have also been considering adding a HTPC with tuner for watching Freeview HD as well as TVNZ On Demand, YouTube, Hulu, etc, as a replacement to the MySky as it's getting harder to justify giving them $100 per month.

In the lounge a Philips 42" full HD plasma, HDD DVD recorder and VCR (purely for historical reasons and legacy media), Bose home theatre, Phillips and Extra Terrestrial Freeeview HD box

Currently getting very frustrated with the Extra Terrestrial Freeview HD box! With the latest firmware version it won't pick up the latest regional Freeview HD channel TV33 (though on earlier versions it will - twice! One instance is listed as tvCentral & gets their EPG, the other as TV33) It's basic PVR functions are very flakey - when it works, it's ok, but often records with no sound and pixelates.

A new Magic TV Freeview box would be a very welcome addition and I'm sure would stop me pulling out any more hair!

we already have a 50" full HD plasma, and a 5.1 800W sound system. a dream come true!

Wow, the Magic DVR sounds like a great next step to Home Theatre heaven! After years of research trying to find a simple, all-encompassing home theatre system, I am only about 40% there, with lots of examples of painstaking research (XP MCE, two programmable remotes, HDMI splitters etc) cluttering the bin.

It started out quite simply - connecting a DVD player, PS3 (bluray/gaming), PC (gaming), and eventually a projector and Sky decoder (in that order), to a receiver and TV, but with one overriding criteria - it's got to be simple for my wife to use!

The first items were easy, a LG 55" LCD TV and a Sony receiver - that's two remotes. Add a DVD & PS3 makes four remotes, and the PS3 one is Bluetooth!

I thought that I would be able to plug everything through the receiver, but trying to put everything through one device sounds like a great idea, except it creates a bottleneck. For example, I may be watching a DVD and downloading a new game on the PS3, so while watching the movie, I would switch the video to PS3 temporarily to check on download progress, but don't want to disrupt the sound from the movie. This means basically, separate video and audio connections, so HDMI now only carries video.

And what does four remotes and separate inputs for video and audio add up to? Remote-hell for my wife! And by the way, removing the DVD player by using the PS3 would make it surprisingly more complex! With that, I've arrived at the following:

- Sony Receiver (HDMI to TV)
- LG 55" LCD TV Freeview HD (SPDIF optical to Receiver)
- PS3 (HDMI to TV, SPDIF optical to Receiver)
- DVD Player (component to TV, SPDIF Coax to Receiver)
- PC (RGB to TV, SPDIF Optical to Receiver)
- PS3 remote control for PS3 (currently investigating Logitech and their PS3 adapter)
- Custom-written Windows application to control the receiver and TV through serial ports (can't afford Creston or similar)

So why is a Magic DVR needed? Because my next task is to add a projector but the latest LCD/LED TVs do not have a "Video Out" connection!!! Without a TV feed, I cannot get a TV signal to the projector, and the only option is a device like the Magic DVR or a Sky decoder...and I know which one I would prefer! Plus, I don't think PlayTV for PS3 is ever going to be released in NZ, so the ability to record Freeview is a definite bonus!

Bring on the projector (and then the NAS box, Sky HDi and one day, a super-universal remote)!

Hi i'm very forgetful with remembering to watch TV shows when they are one so having a dvr would be handy since I can just set it to record and watch it later on. I have a 32" Samsung LCD with no Freeview. The TV is connected to 2.1 Panasonic Hifi Stereo or what ever they are called. It would also be handy to pause TV sense I always get interrupted if I do remember to watch a TV show lol

Very Basic setup for me. Rocking a 29" 4:3 CRT, and the beautiful sounding inbuilt speakers. I really need to go digital.
