freitasm:lyonrouge: OS or server application I can install? if OS is the media Server component available separately?
OS. Not available separately.
Wizzid: I would be keen to know, after time-shifting and operating evaluation is completed, if the Panasonic HDD recordings from tv1,2,3 are able to be transferred to a dvd on the internal DVD recorder for retaining and later viewing.
Sky has copy protect flags embedded in the Standard Definition vertical interval signal to prevent transfers to DVD recorder for those free to air channels (and some others like movies of course). I don't know if Freeview does the same and if it is enforced on the Panasonic PVR/DVR. i.e. can you record a classic episode of a TV1 FTA tv show to HDD and later transfer the recording to internal DVD or is it prohibited by the flag like Sky?
I've kept personal copies of some FTA nostalgic shows since the days of vhs.

it is definitely possible with previous version (bw850), you can record onto a dvd from HDD.

Are you sure that Sky has copy protect flags that prevent TV 1,2 & 3 as well as movies from being transferred to a DVD recorders? This is the first I have heard of it, and I have been recording movies to two Panasonic DVD recorders (both to hard drive and transfers to DVD) for about 5 years. Panasonic is very strict about macrovision etc, but I have never had an issue with recordings off the Sky Box.
Is this verified and, if so, is it just a MySky thing?
If so, I will stick with the Pace box, and steer clear of a MySky upgrade.

lopeti1: Hi Gemini
Im in the process of trying my First DVD-R back up
I recorded Big Momma's house last night which was in HD on TV3
It's pretty much put the DVD-R in and hit copy on the remote for the recording you wish to convert, the Panasonic then prepopulates with the correct(optinum?) compression to fit on the DVD and its gonna take 213 minutes to convert and burn
You can change the compression to lower quality if needed
lopeti1: Hi There, not yet. i need to buy some Blu Ray Blank Media first....I will try and order from ebay ...just for you :-)
Gemini:
Hi lopeti1,
Have you tried transferring an HD recording to Blu-ray using the "H" recording modes (HG, HX, HE, HL)?
gmcintosh: Hi
Reading all of this has been awesome as I'm considering purchasing a Samsung 40" LCD (LE40B650) and the Panasonic DMR-XW300 HDD Freeview recorder. Three things aren't clear to me from all the posts though.
1. Does the Time Slip button (which seems to have moved on the remote) work as per analogue Panasonic HDD recorders. This usually allows skipping in 1 minute intervals, or 10 minutes if you hold the button down. Is this functionality still working under Freeview digital?
2. Can you program the recorder off the weekly onscreen tv timetable, automatically, by just pointing at a program and clicking)?
3. Can you still program using the traditional manual method (setting channels/times/dates etc)?
Confirmation of this would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Glenn
