I don't know if it is anti competitive? But if tvnz cuts their links to tivo, then I guess tivo will be able to make that decision.

I've got the TiVo working with my Harmony One, but there's no inclusion of the 30 second skip function. That said, I've only tried using the device for the NZ model, and it's possibly included in one of the other devices (will give that a go).

What is the exact model that came with the 30 second skip? I understand it was removed in later models (or is that what the string of key presses restores?).

I've also tried (also unsuccessfully) to create a macro (whatever they're called on Harmonys) that moves to FFx3, inserts a delay, and then plays. This is highly erratic in how it works - sometimes FF for 2 minutes, other times not at all!

If anyone has the answer for a 30 sec skip for the TiVo via the Harmony I'd love to hear of it (I miss the functionality of my Vantage unit which FFs as many minutes as pressed on the numeric keypad, eg press 4, moves forward 4 mins).

tvnz although they have written tivo off, still own their shares in it, so unless they sell their shares they are still a major owner of tivo NZ. While Telecom handle the support calls for it before passing on what they can't deal with from their check list, TVNZ is still the registered address for Tivo NZ and still owns 33% of the tivo NZ. personally i think with the larger uptake of tivo now you will see tvnz do some work with it soon, specifically targeting tivo specific adverts to the boxes when people fast forward through ads.

Thanks for the link, Richard - yeah, it's via using those sequences that I've tried creating a commercial skip. Of course, in practice a delay is needed prior to the "play" command in the example given on that website, otherwise it'll begin playing immediately upon reaching FFx3.

As you know well Harmonys are not good with delays! I've successfully created fake devices to provide for a timed delay (it works perfectly in providing a break to allow the TV to warm up prior to the HTPC switching on, so as to ensure the correct resolution). I've tried using that type of delay in the commercial skip sequence but I just get that random result... Any great ideas??!!

Quick question: I want to stream my music from my Mac through my TiVo. I've set most of it up, but every time I go to connect to my laptop, it bounces back to the menu before hand. I assume this means I need to buy that home networking kit to make it work?

If you have the home network package, are there any copy protection measures in place? I seem to recall it said something about some programs may be flagged as non transferable, so has this happened in practise?

I don't think there are, I have never had a program that encountered an error. Not to say they won't in the future, but then that could make the home networking package useless.

the only program i have not been able to put on my tivo is one i recorded then removed the tivo protection from and decided i wanted to watch again, tv wouldn't transfer it. All my movies on my computer have transferred without problem

I suspected capsa stuff would be, but I have never used it myself.

TVNZ is to Tivo as McDonalds is to Georgie Pie...they now have no intention of pushing the brand, but nobody else is going to get their hands on it either.

IMHO "use it or lose it" regulations would benefit the public in a number of areas - from live sports content rights to ownership of iconic brands.

A time-poor geek is hardly a geek at all

The only problem I can see is if it breaks down after 12 months. There is no repair facility in New Zealand and shipping them to Australia seems silly.
I have several TIVO's that are U/S and probably only need power supply or new hard disk as these seem to be the quickest components to go.
Telecom dont want to know as they are at least 1 year old.
Seems a shame. I guess one could take a case with the disputes tribunal but that could be time consuming
At $200 I guess you throw them away if the break down.
