Something is not right about Pete posting that (bad) review of the Zinwell PVR. Smacks of trying to divert attention away from the buggy ET unit.

It's clear that the product that you sell has a large number of faults - I'd imagine that if people were purchasing it off a high street retailer that large numbers would be returning this product. I certainly wouldn't put up with any of the random reboots, problems with the digital audio, pixellation and other issues reported in this thread.

How about you just concentrate on getting the number of problems with your own receiver fixed and the PVR function operating, instead of bagging the opposition?

we have sold around 1600 units, and only have 12 faulty units ...beet that!!

all faults that some of you guys winge on about are antenna related...
we have proven this...
we get units sent back to us faults like pixelation,etc...rebooting..we default them, and send out to anothe rcustomer, and never heer a thing..so explain that.??

E.T remains the best priced, and most relaiable unit on market...FACT...

Perhaps Pete should've (and still should) forward us to where we can read that review/comment.

We'd had enough of the bugs and quirks and returned my unit back in November some time. From what I can see - NOTHING has happened in that time to make me want to change my mind and buy another one.. I was hanging onto the notion of PVR support since July I think it was... You know it just might be time to say "ah well" and move on... Is the clock working yet folks, or has everyone just gone with Pete's awesome suggestion of just leaving it on, so you never see the clock to see it's wrong. Then again, I guess with the need to reboot every few days you're probably getting to reset the clock regular enough.

My ET had no sound this morning. Manual reboot fixed.
I don't get the random reboots, but I don't use the EPG much.
I've had the store an image and keep replaying it thing, for me it was a picture of a dishwasher powder ball thing, crazy.

Personally I don't really know of any problems with the standard Zinwell/DSE HD box. I had one for a week or so during the Olympic Games and got no reception for a few hours, but that was early days for official Freeview HD anyway so can't really comment.

I know the Zinwell/DSE runs hot but it runs all the same. Just doesn't have some features like HD on component out or an AUTO output resolution, -you have to pick a TV resolution and the Zinwell up/down scales all TV channels to that one resolution. As far as I'm aware though the digital audio output works fine too.

If signal issues causes the box to reboot then that is crap software/hardware.

Well written software would not cause the box to crash.

boxes crashing..we have never seen, or experienced...locking up on one ch...sometimes...this is due to interference or bad signal.
software in units is fine...

interesting to note that ...there are some technician in auckland now...here to try and fix the many faults in the Mico units, namely: sommet,Haute...units....heaps of faults..crap units....

Talked to Stuart at Rex Radio & TV this morning. He knows my installation layout and said I should've had no problem with digital. He said there were a lot of crappy products on the market and he hadn't even heard of Satlink. The one he sells which he said would give me no problem is SatMax. It's an extra $100 but it would probably be cheaper than doing a whole lot of recabling.

My confusion was in that I hadn't listened properly to the person who recommended the unit to me. I got mixed up between the two, only remembering the "Sat" part of the name. I couldn't understand why a retired technical would recommend something so bad. This same person warned against the Zimwell.

Well, I got my money back. Went to Ascot's this morning and demanded it. I ran down the product a little bit. I actually felt a little bad because they were quite nice about it. It was a bit funny because they don't usually give refunds and there was quite a bit of a comical regimarole until they could figure out how to do it.

Anyway, that's a lesson well learnt. Be a bit more wary about cheaper products and listen more carefully when someone recommends a brand. Some brands are deliberately labelled to sound similar to superior brands - it's just one of those tricks that are used on consumers.

We heard that this particular unit is working fine at Ascotts...so its has to be YOU....inference from somewhere..as for satmax unit..made by coship...inferior units to ours..fact...
I think the combination of a "geek" and a "E.T"...sometimes creates problems...!!

Interference from somewhere? I had 60% signal strenth. My long-running TV guy who knows the layout of my place and installed most of it assured me there should be no problem and that he has had not problems at all with SatMax from anyone. If I were to purchase one and there was a problem he'd refund me no problem in any case. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Compare www.satlinknz.co.nz to www.satmax.co.nz

Only problem I've noticed only one RCA output set. But they also sell multiple AV units (get five AVs from 1 etc) which is an interesting concept.

I don't know if I'll buy one or not now. Freeview disappointed me somewhat in only having a small number of extra channels which had very little to offer. I was also disappointed when I found out that some of the freeview channels (eg Stratos) are only available on satellite freeview or are only local to a specific area. But when I DID see a good picture, I LOVED the quality - it was like watching a movie.

I'm still thinking about whether to upgrade my Mitzubishi 33 inch CRT to a plasma or LCD widescreen - digital channels included of course.

I've had a little think about the possible problem with the Satlink unit - it may have less sophisticated error-correcting software, so for inferior cable (pre-2001 like mine) that produces more potential errors, it simply can't handle it as well. Also, the processing chip may be slower (hence slow channel changing etc) and the screen breakup may be caused because the chip isn't fast enough to handle the software to translate it properly, particularly if it is continually correcting date error. And the overload, or date errors not being corrected, may be interpreted as a reboot etc. This is just speculation, but as a computer programmer for many years, this is what I suspect the problem may be.

Perhaps the answer for Satlink is to write more effiecient software for the next update to say the least.

If u r upgrading your TV you might want to get one with freeview inside of it.

Can Satmax provide HD (Terrestial) receivers or Sattelite only?

Good to see Pete is still in fine form. Blaming everything else BUT his beloved E.T. and insulting the intelligence of his customers. And a but of racism thrown in for good measure.
I live at Waikuku Beach in Nth Canty, have an old uhf aerial and get a rock solid picture from my Draco HDTV5500. I get about 65% signal strenght and 95-100% signal quality.
Maybe it's time E.T. went home!!!!!
