It would be good to research if the shows they are currently broadcast already do HD in other countries

I just watched some of the demo loop here in AKL. Sure hope that they crank up the bitrate a bit more as at present it looks as bad as some of Sky SD channels.

Worse than anything on Sky, that level of broadcast quality if the same on launch is unacceptable.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

They mentioned on their Facebook page that they are working on fixing that. It is temporary.

They are still not broadcasting on JDA Popoiti here in Wairarapa!!!! Grrr!

Choice isn't scraping up more than 2.5 Mbps in some places so I won't be watching, more low bitrate crapovison. The Chinese channels are embarrassing enough. When will they fix those??

Atleast the 2.5Mbps H.264 can look a lot better than the 2.5Mbps MPEG2 channels you find elsewhere.

Am watching this show reel of stuff.

I am very dissapointed so far. Looks like a crappy channel that won't last long. Too much food and home stuff like the Living Channel and Food TV.

The wikipedia does say that it will get content from Fremantle Media, so that sounds promising, as Fremantle Media owns most of my favorite shows eg: Benny Hill, On The Buses, Man About The House etc...

I actually think their lineup looks quite good, better than what we have on 1,2,3 now, well in my opinion anyway.

I am looking forward to programmes like The Hairy Bikers, Penn and Teller, Scotland in Winter.

ChoiceTV is a step in the right direction I think,  To me now, its comparable with the likes of SBS without all the world news in the day time.  And for free to air TV we shouldn't really complain.

On another note, does anyone know if the epg data will be on TiVo before the actual go live date?

Yes it can, problem is the inferior source material. Chinese channels are just DVB-S mpeg2 streams converted to H.264 and being serious Prime looks like that as well, macroblocking on every single frame even totally static images, lack of depth and unsaturated colours - looks hideous. ChoiceTV is even worse, flat with no depth, incorrect black level etc.

FOUR looks completely different - high bitrate source fed to the encoders.

Hmm looking at screen shots at the loops looks like this quality is worse than said, Hope Choice TV fixes these by tomorrow when they will announce more to their line-up including the fixed launch of their website

Those "2 guys travelling by motorbike through Europe" are the Hairy Bikers. Unless cooking shows completely give you the irrits, and you can decode their Northern accents, then give them a watch. The girlfriend and I love the Hairy Bikers. (Saw them on SBS) and this is a series I haven't seen. You should have seen the smile on her face when I told her we had a new Hairy Bikers series to watch.

As for bad quality TV. Any of the Ubiworld ones on D2 that have been MPEG-2'd to an inch of their grave. The Choice TV promos ain't that bad in comparison.
