NZRobin: Has anyone done a decent review on these new Freeview Panasonic recorders compared to the MagicTV or Tivo. I'm interested in how the usability and features compare in actual use.
The Tivo is legendary for its ease of use but have the newer machines equaled or surpassed it now?
Is it possible to stream recorded programs out to say another computer on a network to view content on its hard-drive while someone else is watching the main TV

freitasm: WHS (Windows Home Server) is a Windows Connect server, so yes, it's visible to DLNA clients.
sqlpro: Hi guys
i just purchased panasonic bw880 and setup network options (home network). i see the videos on my windows 7 laptop (using windows media player). i can play the video but no sound!! i read in one of threads that i can open the video using vlc player but cant seem to find for the path for the video to tell vlc to play it. any ideas ?
thanks for the advise.
You can play TV3 straight from the player, however, all others are HE-AAC and here is what I've had to do.
Use the PS3 to download the content
Transfer the content from the PS3 to SD
Play content from SD card
A dreadful solution but VLC does not have a DLNA client and PS3 is the only client I've found that can download client. If you manage to get a HE-AAC codec that would solve your (and my) problem, I'll keep you up to date with this ongoing frustration.
Note: Although both my Panansonic and Sony have the codec (as they both have FreeView), neither will play the content.
RingoTB: You can definitely copy HiDef content from the HDD to a Blu-Ray on the DMR-BW850, so I would see no reason why it would be changed for the 880, but I have not tried it.
If you try and copy HD content onto a DVD, it is down scaled to standard definition.

Yep, you can definitely do that with the DMR-BW850 but apparently because the 880 is freview certified then you cant copy HD content from the HDD to blu ray. I understand the whole copyright protection thing, but because it is freeview, it is free to air so you should be able to simply archive stuff to blu-ray. Pretty crappy Panasonic
