Our current 'home cinema' consists of an old 21" Panasonic and a cheap Chineese Freeview box which I wired onto an old Sky dish. Note the masking taped power adapter for the Freeview box that flicks off occasionally. Would love a Freeview recorder!

Austin.

Well, seeing as I have a young one on the way (december 6th due) i figured it would be appropriate to give something to the wife whilst she is not working and being a new mum!

So far I have a 1st generation plasma (over 6 yrs old now) and normal uhf tv - nothing flash at all!

Now I have a panasonic plasma, onkyo receiver and inwall (child friendly) speakers.
I live in a freeview HD zone (Palmerston North) but don't have a freeview HD PVR, yet....

Ok so picture is of what I used to have, prior to kids and associated no money and need to sleep sort of thing etc etc.  Just thought I'd put the picture in cos it reminds me of what I'd like, again, one day....

Right now though I'm actually days away from purchasing a new freeview HD recorder to replace my single tuner satellite based one.  I started a forum post about that go gauge other opinions.

So yeah, would be perfect timing!

We have recently bought a 40+ inch Plasma, pretty rediculous lol but I don't watch it often cause I'm also on my computer
We also have 2 other smaller t.v's older than 10years atleast
And we have an old sky thing but not HD, two VCR players (yes, they still exist) and 2 DVD players

My ageing system consists of:
An early model 32" Samsung LCD TV,
Pioneer VSX-D512 receiver,
(Speakers: Jamo Sat 50 fronts which use a Jamo dual-driver pass-through passive Sub for mid - low frequencies and a Klipsch Sub-12 for deep bass, and old JBL centre and cheapo Philips rears [on stands]. Great for stereo but surround is a bit lacking due largely to the rears.)
Panasonic DMR-EH57 160GB HDD / DVD recorder
Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD recorder
Panasonic NV-VP32GN-S DVD player / VHS combo unit
Philips DVP3252 DVD player with USB input that plays Divx / xvid.

I've tried a cheap, ex-HK DVB-T USB stick in my laptop but, despite a good signal and adequate hardware the playback is choppy at best.

I could really use a Homecast HT9200DTR as trying to integrate a stand-alone freeview tuner with my existing recorder/s (as I almost never watch 'live' TV) is too daunting a task.

My lucky number is 22. :)

I've got a 32" Sony LCD, also a PS3.
Have the PS3 hooked up to a 1.5 TB HDD on my computer via WiFi sharing, using "TVersity" which is a great free program. That's about it ATM. A freeview box would come in VERY handy...

My personal set up at home:

Lincoln's Set Up

Sony Bravia, Freeview box (a friend won one but doesn't have the house for it yet! Sweet.), Logitech speakers (pretty budget) and a PS3 connected by ethernet to a netgear router and then to the world. I have a 1.5TB WD drive connected to a Dell computer that's on most of the time as a media server (TVersity) so the PS3 can access and play movies/view photos/etc.

Should be getting the PS3 move at the end of the month too :)

P.S. just read the post above mine and we're very similar! Are you secretly living in my house?!

I have a 32" Konka LCD 720p, Sanyo VHS recorder, Philips DVD Player, standard Sky Digital in the main lounge.

Back room has an LG CRT TV 29" using Analogue receiver, Toshiba DVD player and Playstation 2.

Bedroom & kitchen analogue tv.

As you can most of the TVs are analogue so the freeview decoder will come in handy once analogue is phased out.

Thanks.

Someone asked "Do you need decent UHF reception to make this work? "...

I dont have this unit, but I do have a Zinwell freeview HD set-top box and the answer is... you need some UHF reception but it doesnt have to be great....

The decoder works flawlessly in the lounge with our roof-top aerial which gets reasonably clear, but not perfect pictures on the analog UHF TV...  and when plugged into the "rabbit ears" indoor aerial in our bedroom (under a metal roof), which on analog varies between not perfect, but clear enough to snowy but watchable on VHF channels and from snowy but watchable to unwatchable on UHF channels... the decoder pics up crystal clear pictures and sound most of the time with an occasional glitch on one or two channels.

If your UHF reception is good enough to watch analog TV, even if less than crystal clear, you'll have no problems with the digital....

I have a 32" samsung LCD being fed by a vuduo and a large 3.6m dish, plus I have mysky and a dvd player/recorder.  The 3.6m dish gets around 100 channels from overseas.

TV: Currently have a 50" "HD Ready" plasma - which I have had for nearly 3 years

DVR: Using mySKY HDi with HD ticket - we've got two in the house

Console: Xbox 360 for life yo! (At least until PS Move has some awesome games :) )

HT: Some PoS JVC all-in-one that gives me an audio lag when I user the optical connector (should've killed it while the warranty was still valid!)

Remote: A nice logitech one I got on 1-day for bugger all

Other: Just received an Xbox 360 to VGA cable in the post today, so will be hooking that up to my new 22" LED monitor so I don't have to wrestle the Mrs. for the remote on the big telly - although I will miss wrestling the Mrs....  Will be hooked up to a (surprisingly nice) pair of cheap Genius PC Bookshelf speakers.

Wishlist:
- A Freeview|HD DVR for the bedroom/computer room!
- A decent HT system
- BluRay player or PS3
- Some sort of streaming media setup and YouTube capability on main telly

Cheers, Jeff

Haha, I only come out at night... Nah, you obviously have a lot of common sense having such a sensible setup, referring of course to the PC/1.5TB HDD/TVersity/PS3/Sony Bravia... ;)
