+1 broadcasting is a cheap no brainer way to fill in an entire channel. So now we're going to have three of them.

That being said, I do take advantage of some of broadcasts that I've missed, since we don't have any freeview recorders at our house yet.

I don't watch state television, but I find TV3+1 really useful because I'm never home early enough to watch the news and having to set the recorder in advance is a pain.

Because their journalism is sloppy, they have a conflict of interest from being owned by the government, and I'm too busy to refamiliarise myself with their schedule and format after many years of not watching their programming.

old3eyes: I dare say that in the UK they have way more channels on their version of Freeview to watch.

They certainly do have more channels on Freeview in the UK, but they also have a population of 60 million people and a TV licence fee of £145.50 (roughly $280) per household. Given our population we don't do too badly.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Why don't you just series link the news? Then even if you're home to watch it you can start watching 15 minutes later and finish at the same time? Or watch it live if you really want to. I don't understand people that have a PVR and still watch things (specifically things with ads) live, why would you?

We have a license fee in a around about way as well. It's called New Zealand On Air.

*edit: fixed typo

I totally agree with you on that..... the wife & I haven't watched any live TV (apart from a bit after the Christchurch quakes) for over seven years now, everything is pre-recorded & our viewing habits have changed completely on what they were when we used to watch live...., we actually watch less TV over all now & only watch programs we want to & when we want to watch them

I don't have a proper PVR - it's just a satellite receiver with a USB hard drive plugged into it. I have to admit total ignorance as to whether it has the features you describe, or how to use them.

Yup same boat here .... the irony now is the kids, periodically, say "ohhhhhh can we watch the adds".

But then maybe that is more a reflection of the programming available nowadays ??
