Bought a new 500GB Seagate Expansion External Drive ($67) from Stat. Wareh.
yesterday after a few problems first I managed to get it working on the DishTV receiver had to format it to Fat32 and Primary Partition and seems to be working ok sofar , have not done really any recording yet.

With the new firmware now installed, I recorded one news last night, between 6and 7, file was about 4.3GB in size. Playback seemed fine, in fact I was convinced it was now fixed until after the first 30minutes. I then saw a few incidents of the pix, About once every 5 minutes. But not that bad. It was very watchable though I did not watch to the very end.

I have a few short children programs set to record off TV1/2 which never use to work, will validate that they are now working tonight.

Will also do the news/shortland street recording again as usual and let you guys know.

The pixing when it does happen seems to be about the same, however its now much less frequent.

In tonight one news which I recorded it happened only once in the first 30minutes, did not see it happen in the last 30minutes, but did forward through a lot of the second half.

Shortlands street, did not see it. But did not have the stomach to sit through much of that show

. Forwarded through most of it, only watch about 5minutes in total, and did not see it happen at all.

The high Five recordings for the kids off TV2 are now all good too. No pixing at all.

There is no doubt that this firmware is much better.

I was given a beta copy. Best to log a support case with Dish TV and request the new firmware from them as its not yet on their site.

That's good news.

When you send the feedback to DishTV, would you mind to ask them do they have any plans to fix the remaining pixelation problems? If so, when?

I went over to Dish TV and I noticed this added to the info page for the T1020.

"For PVR Functionality the USB hard drive will need to be formatted as FAT32. Most new external drives come pre-formatted as NTFS so will need to be reformatted as FAT32.

Formatting will wipe any files that are currently on the Drive so you should copy anything you want to keep off the drive before formatting.

Windows will not allow you for format any drive larger than 32GB as FAT32 so you will need to use a third party formatting utility such as Fat32Formatter to format the drive."

Yip its a windose limitation. Download swissknife to partition/format the disk for you.

I bought a T1020 today and flashed with the latest beta firmware. Then I did the usual One News and Shorty series recording using the EPG.

After the recording is done, I watched 45 mins of One News (including ads...). It was very good in general. The audio and video gone out of sync at around 14 mins, easily fixed by pausing it for a few seconds and then unpause. Also, it pixellated once (can't remember the time) but it only lasted a fraction of a second.

Wife is watching Shorty now and all seems good so far.

Fingers crossed...

I did notice the one on the DishTV website is the 0116 beta version , the one i downloded last week friday was the 0115 beta version .
Init. of the harddrive when the receiver starts up is MUCH faster now big improvement

Using ver 1.16 is anyone else seeing their unit start up somewhere between 3am/4am AND between 3pm/4pm.
Its supposed to do the middle of the night thing for over the air updates, but not the daytime one.

Also after waking up it doesnt go back to sleep. Will have to drop them a message on monday.

Anyone had any luck getting a universal remote to work with one of these?
Went to setup a HDD with it and found my remotes UP and OK buttons have stopped working.
(pulled it to bits all looks ok no liquid damange but all the buttons on that track don't go so looks like the chip might have gone)
Bought a cheap Philips Universal Remote SRP2008 for $20 from Dick Smith and DishTV isn't listed as a brand with a code.
Tried the 15 min search all the codes and it found one that worked a bit but not the OK button.
Any ideas on which of the 100's of brands listed might work?

I don't even think Dish TV receivers are even capable of updating OTA anyway so I'll assume that your unit (and the one my dad now has) are starting up because of the firmware update, which is still in beta.
